ANYONE WANT TO SHARE THEIR STETH-MEET EXPERIENCES? A real-life steth meet is something I crave (as my poor long-suffering followers will know, lol). I've been thinking about it even more than ever lately, and would love to hear about the experiences of those who have been lucky enough to have one. I'm not asking for sordid details (but if you want to, feel free 😄) It's more the story and feelings behind it - what sort of a connection did the two of you have before you actually met, how did you feel on the day itself - nervous, excited, guilty, etc? Did you agree expectations / boundaries beforehand? Where did you meet? Was it as amazing as you'd hoped? Anything you'd like to share, as little or as much as you want. I'm just so curious about what it's actually like, how it feels.
Thank you 💖

TL;DR:
I hardly can believe it, but I had a cardiophile meet for the first time. It was the first time for her too. We did it on neutral territory, and spent several hours. It was almost exclusively focused on her heart: I am mostly a listener, and she mostly enjoy being listened. We did stething in various positions, with and without breathplay, recorded ECG (on my cheap single lead recorder), some visible pulse videos, and played with pressure on her chest. (On mine too, but it did nothing this time, despite her using her full weight!) All these things are so much more convenient to do in a pair LOL! There were some lessons to learn. We both were too nervous and angsty to be able to deeply enjoy all sensations, and to make high quality recordings. In general, it all happened more matter-of-factly than our wild imagination pictured for us. And still, we now feel as if we are living in a dream! And that it was too good to let it stay a "once in a lifetime" experience! (P.S. She is from the cardiophile community, but we decided not to identify her, so please: don't ask, and if you have an inkling of who she is, please keep it to yourself!) And now over to her: Gosh, where do I start? So many things had happened and a lot of thoughts are still whirling around in my head! We started off chatting after finding each other in the community. We hit off pretty well because we had some interests in common, and our interest in hearts compliments each others'! One day, we were chatting and I mentioned half jokingly that we should meet up, and he took up that offer and said that he will if I'm fine with it! My initial reaction was to decline it. I was scared and am not a natural risk taker. My mind came up with so many 'what if's. What if it was awkward? What if people find out? What if he isn't who he said he is (or is like)? But at the same time, I try to be rational about things, including accessing the actual risk of the activity vs the reward. From our interactions so far, I knew that he is respectful of boundaries. That does reduce the risk by what I hope is quite a bit! I knew that I definitely want to experience a steth meet at least once in my life. If I reject this meet up, when will I accept another one? I couldn't think of another practical scenario that would make any other offer better than this. Stars don't always align perfectly, and anything close is already hard to come by! With that line of thought, I mentally 'kicked' my whiny 'want to always be safe and comfortable' self into accepting the offer to meet up! We then discussed on where and when was the best time to meet, roughly what we'll bring and plan to do. We were both nervous and excited! Maybe a bit of dread, because we were scared that things wouldn't go the way we hope they would and having the mood ruined! The remaining days spent waiting were nervewrecking!
We met the day before the actual steth session, so we've got a feel of how we are irl before jumping straight to the steth meet. Even so, we were nervous! It was less awkward than I thought it would be. A big part was because he already had a lot of ideas of what he wanted to try out and took a lot of initiative on the activities, so there weren't any awkward pauses of 'what next'. I basically followed whatever he asked me to do, of course only if I was comfortable with it. He brought along the steth mics and portable ECG recorder. We started out with simple stething and recording at different spots and locations. I was stethed while standing up, sitting and lying down. I have a minor heart defect that causes a murmur that can be heard in certain positions. Every now and then, he would pass me the headphones to listen to the live recording. We were able to hear the murmur at some positions, and I was very happy that he was able to hear it live! :) We also tried breathholds. Near the end of the regular stething, he pushed the steth in a little deeper and I felt how my heart pushed back. He commented on it, and I was a little embarrassed about it, but loved the feeling! We tried out many different things too. He felt my carotid, brachial and radial pulse, mentioning that he could feel the pulse pushing back against his fingers. <3 He took videos of my carotid pulse too, and I learned something new! I never knew that my pulse was visible at the base of my neck, I still can't see it when I look into the mirror, but there it was, moving in the video! We also tried ear stething, and he was surprised to be able to hear the murmur and did not expect it to be possible. It was cute seeing his head bobup and down. :D
The best part of the session to me, by far, was when we experimented with pressure on my chest. He hooked me up to the ECG recorder before we started, to try and see if we could catch any skips, and if any, what kind of skip it is. I was not expecting much, but I was wrong! I've tried applying pressure myself before. It was hard to get my heart to skip, and the pressure I had to apply to even have a chance of it skipping was really great and I would end up feeling sore and might get bruises. He first suggested that I stand with my back against the wall and he press against it. I was sitting on the sofa at that time and the monitor was registering about 80-100bpm. I stood up and it shot to about 120bpm+ and went back down after a while. An orthostatic tachycardia response! I held on to monitor because he was using both hands to apply the pressure, with the monitor facing me so that I could see what was going on. He then placed both hands over my heart and applied pressure and the ECG started registering multiple PVCs! I was really surprised and almost thought that the ECG wasn't recording things properly and that it was noise! Is that really happening to my heart? Surely it isn't that irregular and skipping that much in such short succession! I've had a couple of ECG and holters done throughout my life and they have never produced those kind of waves before, but the ECG was showing the skips plain as day! It didn't feel painful, just a lot of pressure that made it feel kind of suffocating because I couldn't breathe properly. I subconsciously stopped breathing from the discomfort too hahaha! We tried again another time, but this time back on the sofa with me lying down. The monitor was facing upwards so both of us could see it. When the pressure was applied again, both of us could see multiple PVCs and some VT runs. I forgot if it was because of seeing the VT runs coming from my heart or because of the suffocating sensation, but I signalled for him to stop the pressure. Looking back, I could withstand longer amount of time with the pressure applied but I was scared because my heart is usually pretty stable with an occasional spontaneous skip. Seeing my heart struggling with PVCs and VTs overtaking regular sinus rhythm was surreal and extremely exciting, but unsettling at the same time! I was scared that I would faint (never done so in my life before), and I definitely didn't want that to happen in a location I was not familiar with. When the pressure was off, I noticed that the bpm stayed at around 50bpm+. That was unusual for me, my average resting bpm is around 70-80bpm+. It took about 1-2mins for it to slowly rise back up to 80bpm+. We tried pressure one more time, this time with an attempt to capture audio along with the ECG trace. It was hard to though, as the prime spots for audio recording would be covered by his hands and the other spots on my chest produces more muted and softer sounds. Sadly, I couldn't feel any of the skips. I only knew that my heart was skipping because of the ECG monitor. I was too busy feeling suffocated, looking at the screen, and holding on to the steth to feel it lol! I could tell that the kind of pressure was the right kind of pressure though. It had the same feeling I get when I get successful skips when I record pressure attempts, but with a lot more force than I could apply on my own. He had the same experience too, saying that he wasn't concentrating too much on that, that he was trying to make sure not to apply pressure the wrong way. Both of our minds were too nervous and occupied with other thoughts to fully experience all the sensation! So this was another new thing we learned! I had the impression that it would take a lot to get my heart to skip. But it's actually pretty 'easy' and consistent. The proper kind of pressure would induce skips successfully 100% of the time. The only problem though was that the pressure needs to be applied by someone else because I don't have the strength to do it on my own! After that, he said that he had a similar problem, that he couldn't apply enough pressure on his own. He wanted me to use my full weight and step on his chest while he lies on the floor. I was a little weirded out, but I think it wouldn't be fair if I was the only one getting what I want. Even though I don't weigh that much, I was really scared that I would accidentally kill him! We did try it out in the end, with him holding on to the monitor and with me concentrating my weight on my heel with it placed over his heart. All the while, I kept staring at him, so at any hint that looked like he would pass out, I'd quickly step off. His face was red from the pressure applied and I was internally going 'Aaaahhh wtf wtf wtf omg omg omg'. Sadly though, the ECG trace didn't register any skips. Thankfully, things ended well or this post wouldn't have been up! Hahahaha! The session ended with him doing a hug from the back, while pressing his hands firmly and tightly against my chest. We were also able to feel my heart beat against it and it felt embarrassingly good! There were many things that we have learned and could improve on from this session, such as focusing more on the physical sensations when pressure was applied. We also forgot to try exercises! All in all, I would think that the session was a success! Nothing is perfect on the first try, and we wouldn't have known what's lacking and could be improved on if we didn't first try it out! We'll end this post off with 2 uploads! A stereo audio of both of our hearts recorded at the same time (with me on the left channel, and him on the right), and the ECG strip that shows the most dramatic 20 seconds my heart has ever gone through in my life!onouwu
