THREATENED BIRDS OF THE EASTERN HIMALAYAS The magnificent Ward's Trogon, Harpactes wardi, is a good example of the current state of knowledge of a typical bird of this region. It is endemic to the eastern Himalayas, apart from a disjunct population on Fan-Si-Pan in northern Vietnam, and is found in broadleaf evergreen forest between 1,500 and 3,000 m. This article therefore aims to highlight the importance of Korea's wetlands for migratory bird populations, and give additional information on threats and conservation initiatives. South Korea forms the southern part of the north-south oriented Korean peninsula, lying broadly between 34 and 38 degrees North, and between 126 and 130degrees East.

ORIENTAL BIRD CLUB
_Cranes at sunrise © Pete Morris / Birdquest_ THE ORIENTAL BIRD CLUB IS FOR BIRDERS AND ORNITHOLOGISTS AROUND THE WORLD WHO ARE INTERESTED IN BIRDS OF THE ORIENTAL REGION AND THEIRCONSERVATION
Over 300 Oriental bird species are considered by BirdLife International as threatened by forest destruction, wetland drainage, hunting and trade. Conservation of these species is often hampered by a lack of knowledge. Oriental Bird Club supports conservation work in the Oriental region by encouraging studies of birds and theirhabitats.
Through the generous support of members and corporate sponsors, the OBC conservation fund has supported hundreds of projects throughout Asia, primarily run by local people. More than £250,000 has been invested in conservation in the region since 1984. More information, including how to apply for a grant, can be found here.
OBC VIRTUAL 36TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2020 - AGENDA In view of the ongoing COVID-19 global health pandemic, the 2020 Annual General Meeting, No. 36, will take place online via Zoom on SATURDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2020 AT 12:00 AM BRITISH SUMMER TIME (11:00GMT).
Attendance is by prior registration only, and only fully paid up members are entitled to vote. The meeting will cover essential Club business only and is not expected to take more than 45 minutes. Under the Club’s constitution, this essential meeting must take place each year with a quorate of OBC Members attending, so we encourage as many members as possible to attend.
