2019 - 2020 BC Multiculturalism Grants Deadline December 6 2019 - 2020 BC Multiculturalism Grants Deadline December 6 Registered non-profit and charitable organizations are invited to apply for up to $5,000 in funding for activities, programs and events in communities across the province to engage public participation in building cross-cultural and intercultural interaction, trust and understanding, or challenge racism, hate and systemic barriers. Applications are being accepted in one of two project streams focusing on building intercultural trust and understanding, and reducing the barriers that limit full participation in society. Intercultural Interaction Stream: For projects that build cross-cultural and intercultural interaction, trust and understanding between people of different ethno-cultural, racial, religious and other backgrounds. These projects can cover a range of activities, programs, events and approaches. Anti-Racism and Systems Change Stream: For projects that challenge racism, hate and/or reduce systemic or institutional barriers for under-represented, racialized and/or other minority groups, especially those that use a collaborative community approach. Boil Water Notice Rural Water Systems 8 & 9 from April 1-November 16 Boil Water Notice Rural Water Systems 8 & 9 from April 1-November 16 The Town of Osoyoos has issued a BOIL WATER NOTICE for Domestic Water Customers served by Rural Water Systems 8 & 9 Effective April 1, 2019 until November 16, 2019. Please refer to the first three digits (008 or 009) of the account number on your annual utilities invoice, or click System 8 or System 9. During this time period the water source is switched from groundwater (well source) to Osoyoos Lake surface water supply. While the Osoyoos Lake water is chlorinated, the current disinfection process is not adequate to protect from bacterial, viral and protozoan pathogens that may be present in the surface water source. The Town of Osoyoos and Interior Health recommend individuals drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. Rural Water Systems 8 & 9 customers, water intended for drinking, washing ready to eat fruits and vegetables, making beverages, ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute. Interior Health has been consulted, and the public will be notified when conditions change or water quality has improved. The Town of Osoyoos is in the process of separating irrigation lines from domestic lines to improve water quality. The public will be notified when these projects are completed. Please notify tenants, visitors, or other building occupants of the boil water notice. Thank you in advance for your patience. Osoyoos is seeking an individual motivated to provide professional planning and development services to internal and external clients in the position of Senior Planner. This position reports to the Director of Planning and Development Services and will work cooperatively with diverse work groups in the organization and have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Council, Committees and outside agencies. The challenging workload includes a varied, diverse and sophisticated level of professional opportunities. The qualified candidate’s excellent organization and communications skills will further assist public stakeholders to define problems, identify solutions and options, and build consensus. If you have the ability to assemble, analyze and synthesize demographic, socio-economic, environmental, land use and infrastructure information needed for planning purposes and hold the following qualifications, Osoyoos offers a challenging opportunity! Preferably a master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning or a closely related field combined with 3 years related experience OR a bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Planning or a closely related field combined with 7 years related and varied experience; Additional university accreditation in planning related programs such as urban design, sustainable development or community engagement would be an asset; Knowledge of the BC Community Charter, BC Local Government Act, and other provincial policies in respect of planning matters; Demonstrated broad and detailed knowledge of contemporary community and regional planning theories and practices; Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures; Strong report writing and presentation skills; Undertake leadership role with special projects; Provide quality customer service including courteously and expeditiously responding to front counter enquiries; Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office products - Outlook, Word, Powerpoint and Excel, along with working knowledge of GIS related programs; Ability to work evenings and weekends; Valid BC Driver’s License. A second Advance Voting Opportunity will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 8 AM to 8 PM and General Voting will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 8 AM to 8 PM. Committee of the Whole Regular Open COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING Delegations Kara Burton, Executive Director of the Osoyoos Museum Society, made a presentation to Council to provide their annual update on the move to their new location at 8702 Main Street. Business Sarah Dynneson, Community Services Program Supervisor, made a presentation to Council about Physical Literacy and You Okanagan Similkameen (PLAY OS). Gina MacKay, Director of Planning and Development Services, made a presentation to Council to provide an update on the Official Community Plan review. The next community event is November 19 at the Sonora Centre (registration required). REGULAR OPEN MEETING Business Arising From Prior Minutes Council gave early budget approval for Music in the Park in the amount of $19,000.00 from the Resort Municipality Initiative fund for their 2020 season. Council appointed MNP as the Town’s Municipal Auditors for 2019, 2020, and 2021, with an option to extend for an additional two years. Correspondence Council agreed to continue the Town of Osoyoos’ partnership with Interior Health whenever possible in order to promote the health and wellness of the community and reduce the risk factors for chronic disease. Bylaws Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 1354, 2019 was adopted. This bylaw renews the permissive tax exemption bylaw, with this year’s lone addition being Desert Sun Counselling Centre. Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1085.123, 2019 was read for a third time. If adopted this amendment would allow for a strata development consisting of six townhomes to be located at 9111 92nd Avenue. Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1085.125, 2019 was read for a third time. If adopted this amendment would allow for a craft brewery to be located at 15 Park Place, as well as amend the definition of Craft Distillery to include craft breweries. Business Council supported a request to the UBCM Housing Needs Report Program for additional funding in order to prepare a Housing Needs Report as part of the Town of Osoyoos’ Official Community Plan review project. Reports Councillor Harvey attended the Fire Hall Open House and encouraged residents to fill out the Fire Department’s online survey. Councillor Rhodes encouraged everyone to vote in the Federal Election. Councillors King and Bennett attended the Osoyoos Indian Band fundraiser for the new Cultural Centre. Councillor King attended the Accessibility and Age Friendly meeting. Councillor Bennett attended the School District #53 meeting. Councillor Bennett attended the Valley First Open House. Councillor Bennett attended the Destination Osoyoos governance meeting. Mayor McKortoff commended the Fire Department for their Open House and for working with the Anarchist Fire Department. Mayor McKortoff encouraged everyone to attend the Osoyoos Concert Series. Mayor McKortoff proclaimed October 21-27 Waste Reduction Week. Mayor McKortoff encouraged everyone to sign up for the Patient Attachment List (PAL) if they don’t have a family physician or nurse practitioner. Further information can be found here.
