RECYCLING - PAPER
Recycling is an intrinsic part of the paper loop. Around 80% of UK-made paper utilises recovered paper which is by far the biggest source of recyclate from domestic waste streams. The sale of this paper results in millions of pounds being paid to local authorities– income used
WHAT IS PAPER?
Paper is made from cellulose – trees being the main source of cellulose fibre (or woodpulp). Besides woodpulp, paper can be made from other materials such as cotton, flax, esparto, straw, hemp, manilla and jute. See below for images of the different fibrestructures.

This diagram details the papermaking process and illustrates the extensive use of recovered paper. New pulp, however, is an integral part of the papermaking process: recovered paper cannot be recycled indefinitely because the fibres lose their papermaking qualities. Paper is made from cellulose – trees being the main source of cellulose fibre (or woodpulp). Besides woodpulp, paper can be made from other materials such as cotton, flax, esparto, straw, hemp, manilla and jute. See below for images of the different fibrestructures.
