She also had the distinction of being the last battleship commissioned by the US Navy before that type of warship was replaced by more powerful and modernized destroyers. On December 7, 1991, exactly fifty years after the attack on on SHIPS OF PEARL HARBOR: USS DOBBIN On May 5th, 1921, a new destroyer tender was launched. Commissioned into the US Navy in July of 1924, USS Dobbin (AD-3) was named for former Secretary of the Navy James Cochrane Dobbin. USS Dobbin spent much of her early years sailing between the United States, Guantanamo Bay, and eventually San Diego via the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean.. In October of 1939, USS Dobbin was transferred to THE COURTS OF THE MISSING The original Courts of the Missing were dedicated to the 18,096 World War II servicemen lost in the Pacific war. In addition, 8,210 missing from the Korean War were also honored. In 1966, the ABMC dedicated the Courts of the Missing, making them an official monument to honor the missing service members of the Pacific and Korean Wars. LAST CHAPTER OF THE PEARL HARBOR SURVIVORS ASSOCIATION The last chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association held its final meeting in September, 2019, marking the official end of the historic association. Carnation Chapter 3 in La Mesa, CA hosted its last meeting after the passing of Navy Capt. Jack Evans left the organization without a vice president. The chapter’s president,Stuart Hedley
