WRATH OF MAN (DIR. GUY RITCHIE): FILM REVIEW I love a good British gangster film. I love a good revenge film. I love a good heist film. This is why I’m about to declare that Wrath of Man, the British gangster-heist-revenge film from Guy Ritchie, is a legitimately great movie. It’s easily Ritchie’s best in years (no love lost to The Gentlemen, which was quite good), and a strong argument could be made that it’s Ritchie’s best ever. THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR (IRC): CORRUPTION! Illustration by Mike Jackson.. Nikolai Gogol’s 1835 satire THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR is written in five acts, but the Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium’s production, directed by Tina Brock, plays as if it was one continuous scene, charging onward like a raging droshky.. LA BAYADÈRE is one of those ballet that is well-known but not performed as frequently as the other popular ballets. HENRI MATISSE’S 8 ART STYLES Then meet Henri Matisse, one of the greatest artists in all of modern art. With more than eighty years of artistic experience, Matisse lived to be eighty-four and created magnificent artworks throughout his career. Today we’ll look at eight of his artistic approaches that told stories of the time periods that he was in, to better understand A BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY PUBLISHING IN PHILADELPHIA Early publishing in Philadelphia has a rich and storied history. William Penn founded Philadelphia in 1682; within three years the nascent town had its first printing press. The first American publication was printed in Massachusetts in 1639, so in publishing — unlike in many other endeavors in America — Philadelphia cannotclaim precedence.
THE IMPORTANCE OF TATTOOS IN DIFFERENT CULTURES The Importance of Tattoos in Different Cultures. Throughout history, many cultures have been enriched through their use of tattoos. The word tattoo comes from the Tahitian word tatau, which translates to tap the mark. Early forms of the tattoo were found on the mummified remains of Otztai, an Ice-aged man who died about 3,400 BCE in the Alps between Austria and Italy. HORSE HERITAGE THROUGH PHILADELPHIA'S HISTORY Philadelphia was filled with streetcars drawn by horses. Streetcar companies owned thousands of equines to deliver people and goods to the depots. By the end of the 19th century, the city was overcrowded with horses. You could find these animals in manufacturing, shipping, and carriage travel. There was an epidemic of horse influenza in 1872. ARMY OF THE DEAD (DIR. ZACK SNYDER): FILM REVIEW Zack Snyder is a workhorse. The dude never seems to stop making movies, and always seems to be doing so with a smile. Earlier this year he released the controversial “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, which clocked in just over four hours, and now he’s back again with an original property that clocks in at nearly two-and-a-half hours. It’s an impossible workload if you ask me, and it’s THE MAURITANIAN (DIR. KEVIN MACDONALD): FILM REVIEW The Mauritanian is very worth watching, but it suffers from the curse of “its strength is its weakness” in that it feels like it exists just a few years too late. There’s little here that most people don’t know about the now infamous Gitmo, and I get the sense that the narrative is indeed trying to be educational in the way itpresents
