Consisting of 22 tracks (15 with Paul Jones on lead vocals - 7 featuring Mike D'Abo) the album illustrates the versatility of the Manfred Mann line-ups to a limited degree. The material is strong, two great singers and Manfred playing a variety of keyboards sounds better than ever. There is some traditional Manfred Moog, (there can never be too much for me), and I am still hoping that one particular wonderful Moog solo will find it’s way onto the album even though the song it appeared in when I heard it, had long since been junked. JULIAN (_Wednesday, 18 December 2019 15:33_) Thanks, Nigel. This solidified my decision to see the band inHeilbronn.
Had a nice chat with Ian and Robert before the show - although I'm not sure the latter understood my complaints about the lyrics in "For You", oh well (all the live recordings with him miss some songs...but this one song, which others have done much more justice, *always* remains!)... "give me my money back, don't want it anymore..." *ahem* The gig was great as usual, with some limiting factors.... I thought it was too loud. Not deafeningly so, but the last time they played at the venue in 2012, I did not wear earplugs - this time I did. John Lingwood is such a loud drummer, I'm not sure he even needs amplification! Vocals also had a shrill edge at times. Other than that the mix was good, perhaps guitars too loud compared to keys, but I just wish the volume had been kept a notch down. Incidentally, Ian agreed with me that the band(s) sounded awful in Fürth 2016! The other factor is that the setlist has just become so predictably boring, even with a few nice surprises like a great Mick Rogers solo spot before "Father...", a full version of "Blinded" with guitar solo!! (but no "She Was", alas), "Spirits" (with a pretty good Mick solo, although the song never sounded as good in recent years as it did in the first half of the band's career, dunno why) or Mick's quick "Silent Night"... I just sincerely hope that this will change with the new album. It's not encouraging to go see the band more often, even if the songs and solos always sound different, when they're still playing more or less the same set that I saw seven years earlier, apart from "Dancing in the Dark" replaced by "Stronger". MMEB have such a great back catalogue, it's a shame that most of the songs never get played. And who knows how much longer they'll be able to continue. Manfred and Mick seem to be healthy and fit but... And if for some reason, they think they have to play every song in the current set (not forgetting that casual fans will know neither "Captain Bobby Stout" nor "Martha's Madman"), I'd like to see at least changing some of the arrangements back to the original versions. The current versions are pretty old now too (sometimes played for a longer period than the originals), often going back to the 90s! John could certainly play "...Carol" at the original tempo (see Budapest), "Martha" (which has now been played more often in its current incarnation than the original) could be chopped down and made a bit punchier. I especially miss the short, but ecstatic guitar solo from the WATCH version, and the double vocal near the end, which shows Manfred's arranging genius so well. Not saying the current version is*bad*, but...
I picked up all of the "Radio Days" volumes (disappointing: No listing of writing & mastering credits or track times...) and the Chapter Three albums. To my surprise, even though they have the download code in the booklet and state that there are no bonus tracks... they are there! On the disc! It certainly makes more sense than adding bonus tracks onto vinyl albums (?!), but I wonder if this is the case for the MMEB albums too? (In that case, it makes it even more annoying that I'm still missing some tracks that aren't on the 40th anniversary box set or Odds & Sods, I'm especially thinking of the b-side "A Fool I Am"...) And what does this tell me about the mastering, are the main albums actually the 2011 remasters?! Seems a bit disingenuous to act as if the bonus tracks were absent, then to discover they're actually there... if I had something to say, I'd update the packaging, and do something about the boring blackness of the artwork while I'm at it... (I know I sound like an endless complainer - I did enjoy the gig, I swear I do...! And I'll be promoting the hell out of the new albumwhen it surfaces!)

PETER HAY (_Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:40_)Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help as it is probably 25/30 years since the release of MM Box 1 but the booklet that I got with the box was not printed correctly. It repeated some pages of text and on the opposite pages you need to hold the booklet up to a mirror to be able to read it – not sure if this will make any sense unless someone has/had the same issue with their one. Don’t suppose anyone has a PDF or scan of the booklet in it’s correct form they could post up. Apologies if this is not the correct forum to ask this* #89

The Konserthus is wide, so a front row seat like mine felt a long way away , but Mick still came over to say hello. Thanks to Robert for chatting to us at the stall after the gig, modestly gentlemanly, straight after a great show. Ive got Steve's stage prompt again, same as for Helsingborg in Marchand Graz in August.
I'm aiming to do another gig in Norway and in Augsburg. Have I had enough yet? Oh no. So long as you keep going, I will soak up the feel good factor. I'm playing bass again, thanks Steve forinspiration.

JULIAN (_Monday, 21 October 2019 18:17_) Happy birthday, Manfred! I'm looking forward to (hopefully) seeing you again in Heilbronn. MMEB were the only rock band I've ever seen at that venue with a good sound mix! Not too loud, well-balanced... A curious thought: Apart from the singer, the current Earth Band line-up is exactly the same as the one that recorded "Criminal Tango". Why not try one or two songs from that album? I'd like the criminally ;-) underrated "Killer on the Loose", I think Robert's voice might suit that track. According to setlist.fm MMEB never played it live?!* #80

another one, but one that's a little mystery to me. It is supposedly a gig in Vienna on 10-Apr-83, which kind of makes sense after the Budapest concerts. But on 09-Apr they played in Cardiff, on the 13th in London and inbetween a day after Cardiff in Vienna? Not completely impossible but logistically very challenging, I'd say.KR

I hope to find a little help on this platform. In the early 70's, I first heard about the very, very good live performance of the Earthband. I think it was in 1971, on BFBS (in Germany) they played live Versions of "Meat" and "Glorified magnified". I Never found these versions, unil this time. Nowhere I have found anything about it. Maybe it was aconcert of BBC....
But the only CD I have owned, is a CD from BBC, but the songs are notincluded.
I think I have nearly all official records and a few Bootlegs, but without these 2 songs... Do someone has an Idea where I can find them?Hopefully, Ralf.

JULIAN (THIS TIME CORRECTLY WITH AN "I"!) (_Thursday, 15 August 201914:59_)
There's a yawn in my ear... I think this slew of unorganized and partially unanswered posts (yeah, 5.1 albums aren't possible because the multitracks are gone, but not everybody knows this...) shows that there is still need for a forum. Forgot to mention, the forum was a great archive of information, especially from the days when Manfred would still occasionally post himself, write things about his keyboards, etc. - all that is now basically inaccessible... I think if the software had been updated to a newer version, more people would have posted again. I've seen it happen on other forums. Spam isn't hard to deal with as long as you have one or two additional mods who can delete it quickly. Some fans might have done it, had youasked.
Plus, there is a reason why nobody should close down a forum without notice - people should be allowed to save the most important threads, their private messages, and have a chance to exchange email addresses with those members they want to stay in contact with. It's frustrating 'cause it's the third forum I was on that closed quickly without such necessary time given. Anyway, how about some new product for us MMEB fans. Lone Arranger is five years old now, the Bootleg Archives were a nice stopgap. Manfred has been promising a new Earth Band album for years now. None of us are getting any younger, and who knows how long the band will continue to exist? At the very least, a full, untampered-with, HD audio and video Blu-Ray concert video release would be good to properly record the band for posterity. And you already have some excellent source material in form of the gig the band played in 2015 at the SWR1 Hitparade (still with Jimmy on drums, R.I.P.), this was filmed in HD, well-mixed and it hopefully still exists. It was a shortened set but the audience was so into it, it would be great to put it out as an official video document. I'm sure there would be decent bonus material to add (including the priceless interview that Mick and Robert did a few hours earlier at the radio station, talking about oxygen tents andironing!).
And to drive the point home, I almost didn't realize there's four archive releases out now... if it wasn't for a comment over on SuperDeluxeEdition.com...* #57

Ah...your first concert. I'm sure you had a good time! You must have lived in Ulm at the time. At that time I was stationed at Wiley Barracks in Neu Ulm (1978 to 1981). You mentioned you found an old article about the concert from a local paper. Would you mind scanning and emailing a copy to me? I would really appreciate it! My email address is mjvtlv@yahoo.com THANKS* #54

NIGEL STANWORTH (_Monday, 17 June 2019 08:31_)Hi James,
No UK dates planned at present, keep an eye on the tour dates on www.manfredmann.co.uk, in recent years it has just been the odd UK date, always worth travelling to.Nigel

NIGEL STANWORTH (_Thursday, 06 June 2019 12:29_)Hi Geoff,
Don't believe its anyone other than Manfred playing on 'Joybringer'.Nigel
* #41
GEOFF (_Wednesday, 05 June 2019 19:57_) In the comments after one of the many Youtube renditions of "Joybringer" somebody has said "my husband played synthesiser on that recording" and I assume it wasn't Manfred's wife. Why on earth would manfred need a session musucian.....if he did.....which I doubt. Anyideas?

NIGEL STANWORTH (_Saturday, 01 June 2019 08:56_)Hi Dave,
As Manfred has said in the past, if someone books the band they will play, however I think its unlikely that they will play the U.S. given its so long since they last played there (40+ years). Book a trip and come and see them in Europe?Nigel
* #39
DAVE DELUDE (_Friday, 31 May 2019 23:09_) Will the band ever come tour in the U.S.?* #38

MARTIN DOWLAND (_Monday, 15 April 2019 01:33_) Belated, but the gig in Helsingborg last month was fantastic: I flew over from Gatwick in the morning, back home the next day. I've got Steve's song prompt as a souvenir. Best thing I've done all year, thankyou. Can't wait for Graz and Stavanger.* #29

VADIM SURIKOV (_Friday, 29 March 2019 10:27_) Being a MMEB fan since my 15, now I wonder why the Band still hasn't any albums in 5.1 Surround sound and Hi-Res edition? Best of all it would be full catalogue (the Black Box) or... most fabulous albums on Blu-ray Audio 5.1, DVD-Audio 5.1, SACD 5.1. Please, give this idea to Mr. Mann! Look forward to see the your 5.1/Hi-Res on store shelves anyday...* #25
NIGEL STANWORTH (_Wednesday, 27 March 2019 18:04_)Hi Marco,
Sorry no idea regarding the signed vinyl box set. In terms of Plains Music, yes there was a vinyl version released. According to Discogs, Intuition Records INT-3062-1 in Germany and PVB Music PVBC 13, PVBC (D) in South Africa. Have a look at Discogs.com. Hope that helps.Nigel

MARCO OUDHEUSDEN (_Wednesday, 27 March 2019 15:52_) Great to see these tour dates being archived - so my very first live concert was The Hague februari 1983 when I was 14! Some years ago there was a vinyl box set with all MMEB records signed by Manfred for sale - is that still available? And has 'Plains Music' ever been released on vinyl? Cheers from Amsterdam, keep up the good work and play on!M.

TIM BRENNAN (_Monday, 11 March 2019 22:21_) Hi Nigel. I have done some research on when Manfred toured Australia in 1971. The first two gigs were Thursday 6 May in Perth WA at Beatty Park Aquatic Centre (generally just referred to locally as Beatty Park) and Friday 7 May in Melbourne VIC at Festival Hall. You may want to adjust your itinerary of dates. Happy to discuss. Good to see someone in here maintaining access to Platform End!* #18

PETER (_Wednesday, 06 March 2019 09:55_)Hi guys.
I just want to thank You for Your performance at Göta Lejon Stockholmon 5/3-2019.
Please don't take this wrong but I had actually never heard of Manfred Mann before the concert, I was "dragged" to the event together with some dudes :). Evening arrives and I had almost forgot, and I had "low" expectations (not knowing anything about anything). Göta Lejon was full to the last seat and the atmosphere seemed to be on top. I got a positive surprise. The joy and love You radiated during the performance was so vivid, and I left with a big smile on my face. Thanks! You were all great of course, but can't help being a bit stunned by Micks guitar... :))* #13
HOWARD COATES (_Tuesday, 05 March 2019 00:04_)Hi,
I am sure I saw the Earth Band concert in 1976 in the Torquay/Paignton area, at short notice as a warm up for the Roaring Silence tour, possibly in July or August.Howard

DAVE LEE (_Monday, 04 March 2019 14:20_) Hi. Missing gig from your list? The band played Keele University, Staffordshire on 14/3/79. I have the ticket (if you want a jpg copy for the website). My friend says he remembers Chris Slade playing a drum solo in the encore Mighty Quinn, but I reckon he’d left the year before. Maybe Chris played a guest performance...before JohnLjoined?? Anyone?

JULAN (_Tuesday, 19 February 2019 19:04_) Nigel - wouldn't it have been nice to at least inform the users ahead of closing it? Also the link is still there on the website. Some kind of "official" statement for anyone coming to the website would be nicer than simply locking and then deleting it without notice. As I'm not on facebook, this was my only source of MMEB news... :-(* #10
