The Victorian Government acknowledges Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Country throughout Victoria and pays respect to their cultures and Elders past, present and emerging. MORE VICTORIANS UNDER 50 TO ACCESS PFIZER AT STATE CENTRES The Commonwealth’s COVID-19 vaccination program is expanding in Victoria, with a blitz planned for the coming month following delivery of more Pfizer vaccine from the Commonwealth, the opening of more open-access vaccination centres, and hundreds of thousands of Victorians under 50 soon able to access the vaccine. From Monday 17 May, Victorians aged under 50 in a number of ATTRACTING INVESTMENT FOR VICTORIA’S RECOVERY, AND Attracting international investment will be critical to creating and protecting more Victorian jobs. The Victorian Budget 2020/21 invests more than $300 million to help draw more overseas investment, support local industries and create jobs here in Victoria. The Andrews Labor Government’s International Investment Strategy is Victoria’s blueprint to draw on the strengths that secured our SUPPORTING VICTORIANS TO TRAIN, RETRAIN AND FIND Real recovery from this pandemic will rely on supporting Victorians to train, retrain and find new opportunities. SUPPORTING TRADITIONAL OWNERS TO CARE FOR COUNTRY The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Aboriginal Victorians to care for Country with a $22.5 million investment to reinvigorate Traditional Owner-led cultural land and fire management practices. As part of the Victorian Budget 2021/22, the funding will support Aboriginal Victorians to implement the Victorian Traditional Owner Cultural Fire Strategy. DELIVERING THE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT VICTORIANS DESERVE Victorians will get the mental health support and care they need, with the Victorian Government to provide additional funding as demand for services increases during current restrictions. Though they’re important and necessary, these temporary measures can affect the mental health and wellbeing of Victorians, including children and young people – which is why the Government will SUPPORTING VICTORIAN UNIVERSITIES The Victorian Government will make an unprecedented investment in local universities to protect jobs and support the state’s economic rebound from the coronavirus crisis. Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney joined Treasurer Tim Pallas today to announce the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund – the latest in a string of announcements to STATEMENT FROM THE PREMIER This week I had another round of scans and a meeting with my care team at the Alfred and got some good news. The broken vertebra has almost fully healed and they’re letting me take off the back brace that I’ve had to wear for the last three months. The six broken ribs will take a while longer to finish healing and doctors tell me that between the ribs and getting used to not having the ROYAL COMMISSION INTO CROWN MELBOURNE EXTENDED The Victorian Government has granted a request from the Royal Commission into the Casino Operator and Licence to allow additional time and funding to complete its important work. Commissioner Raymond Finkelstein wrote to the Acting Premier to request an extension to 15 October 2021 and an increase in the Commission’s funding from $10 million to $19.75 million. KEEPING WORKPLACES SAFE AND SUPPORTING BUSINESSES The Victorian Government will maintain the WorkCover average target premium at its current rate of 1.272 per cent of remuneration for the 2021/22 year – keeping Victoria’s premium rate one of the lowest in the country. The Government will also provide $550 million to the WorkCover scheme to ensure people injured at work can continue to access the support they need to recover and get back VACCINE BLITZ TO CONTINUE AND EXPAND The Victorian Government is doubling down on its successful vaccine blitz to help turbo charge the Federal Government’s vaccine rollout– expanding it to include our hard-working paramedics. SUPPORTING TRADITIONAL OWNERS TO CARE FOR COUNTRY The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Aboriginal Victorians to care for Country with a $22.5 million investment to reinvigorate Traditional Owner-led cultural land and fire management practices. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND: MORE SUPPORT FOR VICTORIANS IN NEED The Victorian Government is making sure no Victorian is left behind, providing a dedicated boost to hardship payments and emergency food relief for our state’s most vulnerable. The Government today announced an additional $30 million package to ensure this critical help – including food and financial support – is made available to communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. KEEPING WORKPLACES SAFE AND SUPPORTING BUSINESSES The Victorian Government will maintain the WorkCover average target premium at its current rate of 1.272 per cent of remuneration for the 2021/22 year – keeping Victoria’s premium rate one of the lowest in the country. The Government will also provide $550 million to the WorkCover scheme to ensure people injured at work can continue to access the support they need to recover and get back STATEMENT FROM THE ACTING PREMIER We now have 60 local cases and more than 350 exposure sites. And a variant of the virus that is quicker and more contagious than we’ve seen before. To date, the approach has been to track the spread through friends, family and workmates. People spending time together for minutes and hours – not seconds. What we’re seeing now is something else – something even more serious. At least one VACCINE BLITZ TO CONTINUE AND EXPAND The Victorian Government is doubling down on its successful vaccine blitz to help turbo charge the Federal Government’s vaccine rollout– expanding it to include our hard-working paramedics. With more than 10,000 doses delivered to Victoria’s aged care and disability workforce through our dedicated vaccination lanes since the blitz began, it’s clear that providing priority access for BETTER REGIONAL CONNECTIONS FROM SCHOOL TO THE TRAIN Regional students will have more options to get to or from school with train services to better align with school bell times under a timetable change from the start of Term 3. The Victorian Government has listened to community feedback on January’s major timetable change and made some adjustments. One train service will change its departure time to accommodate school students while A BROADER VISION FOR FEDERATION SQUARE Federation Square will be revitalised as part of an expanded and continuous arts, civic and cultural precinct that will extend across the Yarra and include the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Arts Centre Melbourne and the new NGV Contemporary.
