MAKING PAPER ORCHIDS: THE HOW-TO Awesome! Thanks for sharing the how-to. I saw your first post about them the other day and loved the idea. My dad is a horticulturist and his specialty is orchids, so I’ve grown up loving them. FAMILY RECIPE: HOMEMADE "NORWEGIAN" PICKLES Slice the scored cucumber into a bowl and sprinkle with salt. (Photos above) Set salted cuc’s aside and, in a saucepan combine 2 cups vinegar, 2 cups sugar and one cup water. Stir together and bring to a boil. Immediately pour the vinegar mixture over the salted cucumbers. Cover, and then chill for a couple of hours. HOMEMADE GINGER CHEWS!! Add 2 tablespoons maltose and stir together. Add 3 tablespoons fresh ginger juice. Allow mixture to bubble together. Place wax paper on a large plate or cutting board. Generously sift tapioca starch onto wax paper. With your finger, make gentle depressions in the starch and pour candy mixture onto the depressions. COOKING: GORDON RAMSAY'S APPLE TART I was first exposed to Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word when I visited New Zealand in 2007/2008. I was staying in the Skote l (Ski/Hotel) on Mt. Ruapehu, and after a long day of searching for a particular carnivorous plant in the field, my travel companion and I were beat. After a shower and a beer, he was asleep. I clicked on the telly and began to channel surf. DIY: SOCK HOBBY HORSES For the horse’s nose, I took a thick pinch of the stuffed sock, and stitched it at the base, using matching thread, so that a structured nostril would form. For the ears, I used two triangles (about 3 inches wide) of felt in varying colors, I stitched them together with embroidery thread and reinforced them with a dab of Tacky glue. March 15, 2011 By radmegan 20 Comments. Yesterday I made this sweet little wall-mounted succulent garden. Today, I could not wait to share it with you. For the first time ever, I’ve put all of my craft instructions, materials needed and helpful step-by-step photos into a PDF for sale in my etsy shop. INDOOR TABLETOP WATER GARDEN Here’s what you will need for your very own table-top water garden: – A glass container, bowl, wide-mouth vase etc. – Water plants such as taro, water lettuce, water hyacinth, duck weed, fairy moss etc. – Plastic pots shorter than the height of your glass vessel.–
KNITTING FORK PROJECTS: HEARTS APPLIED 5 WAY Yesterday, I shared a very quick way to make a “knitted” heart using a knitting fork. Today, I wanted to share a few fun ways to use these hearts in your home decor and as Valentine’s Day gift ideas! Knitted Heart Craft #1: Heritage Flag Hot Pad I’m sure I’ve mentioned my Norwegian roots before, HEART-HEALTHY TREATS: SEED & NUT ENERGY BARS 3 tablespoons honey. Wax paper. Cooking Spray. Rolling pin. Dry skillet and small sauce pan. Knife. I toasted my sesame seeds as per my candy recipe (in a hot, dry skillet on the stove), and added in the sunflower seeds for good measure. Once the seeds were toasted, I cooked the honey and brown sugar together in a small saucepan until itbubbled.
SEA URCHIN AND WOOD SLICE SUCCULENT PLANTERS Sea Urchin and Wood Slice Succulent Planters. I’ve really been missing that satisfying feeling that comes with completing a craft project. So, I decided I needed to make a handful of small, succulent gardens. I drilled out shallow wells in some Juniper wood slices I’d been saving and started potting up a few wee gardens. CANDY IS DANDY: COOKING PEANUT BUTTER CUPS Empty the peanut butter into a bowl and stir in the powdered sugar. Mix in the softened butter and set aside. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler, stirring with a spatula. The chocolate should be smooth and velvety. Arrange your cupcake papers onto a baking sheet and lightly mist with cooking spray. Spoon the melted chocolate into thecupcake
MOUNTING STAGHORN FERNS ON CEDAR PLANKS I placed two of the strips under the fence planks (perpendicular to the planks), and secured the wood pieces together with 1 1/2-inch screws. Then, I flipped the backboard over and drilled two more screws into the center of a supporting strip. I wrapped 12-gauge wire around both of the screws, leaving a little slack in the wire. VIKING CRAFTS: A LUCETTED NECKLACE/SCARF One of the tools that caught my eye was a knitting fork, also known as a lucet. Vikings used these lucets to make cords and clothing. Since the weather is cooling off, and since (despite previous blog entries) I don’t practice many Viking habits, I wanted to use my lucet to make an insulate necklace/scarf hybrid! I cast on my lucet by lacing STICKS & STONES: A FRUGAL & OUTDOORSY VALENTINE'S DAY Sticks & Stones: A Frugal & Outdoorsy Valentine’s Day Craft. February 14th is right around the corner, and this weekend it dawned on me that I needed to come up with a couple of no-frills Valentine’s Day gifts for my oh-so-frugal, mountain-man husband. I LOVE being surrounded by nature- in fact, living in Los Angeles, aregular diet of

Generously sift tapioca starch onto wax paper. With your finger, make gentle depressions in the starch and pour candy mixture onto the depressions. HEART-HEALTHY TREATS: SEED & NUT ENERGY BARS 3 tablespoons honey.
BAKING IRISH SODA BREAD FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY 1 3/4 cups buttermilk. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Whisk together the 4 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Using clean fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour, mixing until it resembles a coarse meal, then stir in the raisins. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. EASY KNITTING FORK FOUR-LEAF CLOVERS Happy St. Patrick’s Day friends!! I don’t normally post tutorials on Saturdays, but this is a quick one- just a fun way to make up a St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock (with 3-leaves, OR a lucky four-leaf clovers!) and avoid getting pinched for not waring green today! If you have your radmegan-made knitting fork (aka a “lucet”), VIKING CRAFTS: A LUCETTED NECKLACE/SCARF One of the tools that caught my eye was a knitting fork, also known as a lucet. Vikings used these lucets to make cords and clothing. Since the weather is cooling off, and since (despite previous blog entries) I don’t practice many Viking habits, I wanted to use my lucet to make an insulate necklace/scarf hybrid! I cast on my lucet by lacing KNITTING A JUTE SATCHEL Since I’m on a budget, and wanted to knit a satchel durable enough to handle the great outdoors, I stole borrowed 2 bundles of jute cord from the garage, used my 8-inch diameter round loom, and 3.5mm straight bamboo knitting needles, and to complete my bag, I also used the plastic sewing needle that came with the loom kit, a wooden bead for my bag clasp, and a pair of scissors.* Home
