THE STRUGGLING RADIOLOGY RESIDENT The radiology program’s goal is to help these residents along as soon as possible to allow rapid and more effective remediation. Early remediation can prevent a struggling resident’s further downward spiral that could lead to probation, suspension, or even worse, jobloss.

However, most applicants don’t realize what happens to the typical resident’s desire for interventional radiology after they begin their residency. Of course, these programs don’t tell them that! HOW MUCH WORK IS TOO MUCH FOR A RADIOLOGIST? (THINK RVUS!) Well, I found a relatively recent article in Aunt Minnie that reports just that. ( 2) To summarize, it says that the average radiologist performed 8907 RVUs in 2016. Now that we know the average RVUs per radiologist, it’s a relatively simple step to ask what the average number of RVUs per radiologist per year is in any given practice. HOW IMPORTANT IS LEVEL ONE TRAUMA TO MY RADIOLOGY TRAINING How Important Is Level One Trauma To My Radiology Training? Bullet wounds, stabbings, motorcycle accidents, falls, and blunt trauma from severe car accidents. These are some of the incidents that make up a bulk of the trauma at a level one trauma center. But, let’s say you attend a program that does not have a level one trauma center and THE POST INTERVIEW SECOND LOOK Every year after interview season ends, there is a brief interlude until the rank selection list is submitted. And now, during the life and times of covid, it may be more challenging to arrange a second look. However, with vaccines available to health care team members, students, and attendings alike, you may be able to schedule one. My biggest question here would be, if I have any chances after ABR certification in actually pursuing a career as an independent radiologist in the US.
