CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID Checking the transmssion fluid isn't intuitive, the "dip stick" is a bolt, not a stick, and getting to it isn't so easy. The bolt is on top of the transmission housing, below the heat exchanger. 1984 CATALINA 36 M25 DIESEL, EXHAUST SYSTEM, OTHER Upgrade and maintenance projects on a 1984 Catalina 36, Universal M-25 diesel heat exchanger upgrade and other projects SAN DIEGO HARBOR BUOYS San Diego Harbor Approximate Distances* Harbor Island to Point Loma channel - 6.4364 miles, 5.5 nautical miles *Actual distance is determined by your course Buoys Green right going, red right returning Latitude/Longitude locations approximate San Diego Channel Buoy #5 (Lighted Bell Buoy) latitude/longitude decimal: 32.650278 -117.218333 degrees: 32°39.1' N 117°13.6' W San Diego Bay EVALUATING THE ALTERNATOR MOUNTING UPGRADE Universal M25 Service Bulletin #193 - DC Alternator Mounting. Critical upgrade - You bet I take that seriously. Service bulletin #193 says the early Universal M25 alternator bracket should be replaced and there is a conversion kit for this. The bracket prone to failure is the kind with the adjusting arm that goes over the top of thealternator.
DRAINING THE ANTIFREEZE FROM THE UNIVERSAL M25 DIESEL Someday you may want to change the antifreeze in the Universal M25 diesel, or like me, you HAVE to drain it because you are going to replace the exhaust riser. REPLACING THE OBERDORFER IMPELLER Unscrew the 4 screws on the cover of the Oberdorfer 202 M-15 pump. Tap cover on side to loosen, being careful not to damage the cover mating surfaces (oops, missed this part! Oh well, the cover came off easily) Remove the cover. the 2 top screws are shorter than the 2 bottomscrews.

1984 CATALINA 36 MKI FOR SALE SOLD Can you believe we owned Reality Check from January 1987 to May 2018?That's 31 years!
I always knew the day would come when we sell Reality Check, but I didn't really expect it to be 2018. Life's bumps have hit Steve hard, and complications from immunotherapy cancer treatments have left him with damage to the nerve cell fibers in the spine (called Transverse myelitis). There isn't any coming back from the damage, so we sold our beloved sailboat. We've made a lot of wonderful memories aboard Reality Check, and I've had lots of projects! I plan on keeping this website up for quite some time, I've had tons of fun writing about the projects and appreciate hearing from the many, many people that the articles and how-to's havehelped.
