About Rebuild. Rebuild Foundation is a platform for art, cultural development, and neighborhood transformation. Our projects support artists and strengthen communities by providing free arts programming, creating new cultural amenities, and developing affordable housing, studio, and live-work space. The Archive House is located next-door to the Listening House and serves as a gallery, micro library, community nexus, and one-time administrative hub for STONY ISLAND ARTS BANK The Stony Island Arts Bank is a hybrid gallery, media archive, library and community center – and a home for Rebuild’s archives and collections. Designed by William Gibbons Uffendell and built in 1923, the bank at 68th Street and Stony Island Avenue was once a vibrant community savings and loan. DORCHESTER INDUSTRIES Dorchester Industries has grown out of Rebuild’s workforce development programs. These programs connect contractors, master craftsmen and artists with residents of Chicago’s South Side to provide training in the building trades and creative industries.1975 PAINTINGS
1975 Paintings is occasioned in part by the strong affinity between The Underground Museum and Rebuild Foundation. The exhibition reunites the 11 paintings in the community that gave rise to them. An exciting component of the rental community is the Art Center, opening early 2015, which will be a performing arts space. Rebuild Foundation, in partnership with independent curator Guillaume Désanges, the French Embassy, and the Institut français welcomed Aliocha Imhoff and Kantuta Quirós as curators-in-residence of the Méthode Room residency program. This class teaches middle- and high-school aged students basic sewing and design skills, focusing on embellishment and reworking existing garments, while fostering conversations about personal style. BLACK CINEMA HOUSE
Black Cinema House hosts screenings and discussions of films by and about Black people and the issues shaping our lives. BCH also offers community video classes for youth and adults, encouraging our neighbors to explore their creativity, tell their own stories, and develop the skills to shape their own media images. DORCHESTER INDUSTRIES Dorchester Industries has grown out of Rebuild’s workforce development programs.
