Gutenberg’s bible was the first platform on which a metal font stood. circa 1455. It should be noted that while metal type played a pivotal role in the life blackletter up to and at this point, but the variations that follow were both used by printers with metal type, and by calligraphers and writers with pen and ink, as the images belowwill show.
