In the case of a home constructed from recycled shipping containers the module is the container itself – ranging in size from 8 feet wide by 10, 20 or 40 feet in length by 9′-6″ high (if using high cube containers). BASIC CONTAINER DESIGN This is because a container is designed as a singular unit with all pieces working together to create that amazing structural integrity. If you remove parts of that system, the unit begins to fail under general loading. Those openings need to be properly reinforced and braced to ensure stability. BASIC CONTAINER DESIGN As I continue working with shipping containers and designing structures based on modular technology, it's become increasingly apparent that a "get back to basics" strategy sometimes needs to be applied.
