Daniel Observatory features a very historic 23″ refractor telescope, the eighth largest of its kind in the nation. The Great Refractor was completed in 1882 for Princeton University and was the main instrument in their Halsted Observatory. The lens was figuredby

T. C. HOOPER PLANETARIUM T. C. Hooper Planetarium Visit the Planetarium during our Friday Starry Nights programs. Click here for more details. Opening in 1989, the planetarium was named for T.C. Hooper who was instrumental for the early fund raising of monies for many of the facilities now at Roper Mountain, including the planetarium. ROPER MOUNTAIN SCIENCE CENTER SECOND SATURDAY Hours. 9:00am – 3:00pm. Last tickets sold at 1:30pm. Parking is FREE and in the Main Parking Lot. Buses provide transportation around the mountain continuously. The second Saturday of select months provides an opportunity for the public to visit the learning spaces throughout the science center. This is a great opportunity to enjoy FRED W. SYMMES HALL OF SCIENCE As a Greenville County Schools facility, Symmes Hall of Science is open to the public only during special events. The newly renovated Symmes Hall of Science is home to STEM, Physical Science, Weather, Forensics, and many other unique and engaging experiences. In addition, the 300 seat Hipp Auditorium is used for events and assemblylessons.

UPDATE ON JULY AND AUGUST SUMMER EXPLORATION CAMPS We are excited to announce that we have gotten a tentative approval for July and August camps to take place! The safety of your children and our staff are our primary considerations, which means that there will be changes to the camps we can offer. We look forward to seeing you soon. ------------------------- ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY BUILDING Greenville County Schools Administration and Board of Trustees has broken ground on Roper Mountain Science Center’s new Environmental Science and Sustainability Center. The 28,428 square foot facility is the first new educational building on the RMSC campus since 1989. It is expected to open in early 2021.
