Losing Our Religion. Almost everyone in the world of American religion has spent the last couple of weeks thinking through what Gallup just revealed: that, for the first time since they’ve been surveying the topic, less than half the country belongs to a church of any kind. My first thought was grief. A CONVERSATION WITH PASTOR TIM KELLER ABOUT HOPE IN TIMES In this episode of Signposts, I am joined by Pastor Tim Keller to talk about his new book, Hope in Times of Fear: The Resurrection and the Meaning of Easter (Viking, 2021). 10 THINGS I WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT SOUTHERN BAPTISTS Southern Baptists are ubiquitous in American culture. We're often misunderstood. In light of the upcoming annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham, I wanted to share this article on what I wish everyone knew about our nation's largest Protestantdenomination.
WHY THEOCRACY IS TERRIBLE Theocracies are awful and abusive, not only because they oppress human beings but because they also blaspheme God. New York Times columnist Bret Stephens calls Iran a “klepto-theocracy,” meaning that the claim to divine authority there is used to financially fleece their own people of money and property. That’s true, but it also is true SHOULD RELIGIOUS BELIEF INFORM PUBLIC POLICY? Should Religious Belief Inform Public Policy? In a New York Times op-ed, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo defended his support for a new state law removing the most basic restrictions on late-term abortions because, though he is a Roman Catholic, his religion “cannot demand favoritism as I execute my public duties.”. WHAT AUGUSTINE'S BAPTISM CAN TEACH OUR CHURCHES I just finished reading a remarkable little book, Font of Life: Ambrose, Augustine, and the Mystery of Baptism, by Garry Wills (Oxford University Press).I’ll admit that I started the book with a bit of misplaced Baptist triumphalism, and ended it with a bit of a chastenedlonging.

WHY DO DYING MEN CALL FOR "MAMA?" That’s the question I’ve been pondering for months, since reading a line in an Atlantic Monthly article about what we can learn from the last words of the dying. Every so often I hear of a pastor embroiled in some controversy over his removing the American flag from the church sanctuary. The most memorable incident to me was the pastor who simply secreted the flag away in the middle of a Saturday night, as though the flock wouldn't notice the next morning. But by dawn's early light, they saw the flagwas not there.

IS THERE A FUTURE FOR ISRAEL? The future restoration of Israel has never been promised to the unfaithful, unregenerate members of the nation (John 3:3-10; Rom 2:25-29)-only to the faithful remnant. COURAGE TO STAND
Gospel courage is nothing like the bravado of this anxious age. The call to courage is terrifying because the call to courage is a call to be crucified. In The Courage to Stand, bestselling and award-winning author Russell Moore calls readers to a Christ-empowered courage by pointing the way to real freedom from fear—the way of the cross. THE STORM-TOSSED FAMILY In The Storm-Tossed Family, bestselling author Russell Moore teaches readers whether you are married or single, whether you long for a child or are shepherding a full house, you are part of a family.. Family can be the source of some of the most transcendent human joy, and family can leave us crumpled up on the side of the road. Family can make us who we are, and family can break our hearts. WHEN WILL YOUR CHURCH BE BACK TO NORMAL? The truth is that we don’t know, nobody knows, exactly what is next in this awful time. But we do know one thing. There will not be a Sunday when, suddenly, everything is back to normal. Now, it’s true we will be “back to normal” if by that one means the ability to gather once again. Yes, we will do that. We will be able to sing 10 THINGS I WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT SOUTHERN BAPTISTS Southern Baptists are ubiquitous in American culture. We're often misunderstood. HOW TO DEVELOP A CHRISTIAN ETHIC Not long ago I got an email from a Christian man who asked me, “What can I do to become knowledgable in Christian ethics?” Obviously, I think that’s a good question. Ethics is not, after all, something that only academic types or pastors have to think about. Every Christian has a mandate to be able to articulate the truth of the gospel and to apply it in every season of life.More
