INPUT ON GLYPHOSATE SOUGHT Industry and the public are being asked for information about the use of the herbicide glyphosate, in a new consultation by the EPA. Glyphosate is used in weed killers, such as Roundup, by gardeners, farmers and councils, but the possible environmental and health effects have been subject to public debate. The EPA’s position, similar to Australia, Canada, the US and the EU, is that EVACUATING AUCKLAND WHEN A VOLCANO THREATENS ERUPTION Scientists have modelled how long it could take people to safely evacuate Auckland with advance warning of a volcano eruption. They found the whole process could take up to 49 hours when the site of the new eruption is understood, and that people living in residential, suburban areas would require the longest evacuations. NZ'S GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS DRASTICALLY RISE AND FALL The latest greenhouse gas inventory shows that in 2019 emissions rose by 2 per cent on the previous year. The Ministry for the Environment said it is mainly due to increases in emissions from manufacturing and construction, and public electricity and heat MĀORI CHIEF SCIENCE ADVISORS RECOMMENDED A new report says Māori and Pacific experts are being excluded from science advice and key decision-making roles, including in the Covid-19 pandemic..
