People love comparisons. Itâs built into our nature to compare groups and note the differences. So itâs no surprise when I present at conferences, that one of the topics is often on looking at the differences between runners. RUNNING MECHANICS: ARE YOU OPTIMIZING FOR EFFICIENCY ORRUNNING MECHANICS 101RUNNING MECHANICS DRILLSRUNNING MECHANICS DRILLSRUNNING MECHANICS PDFBODY MECHANICS OF RUNNINGGOOD RUNNING MECHANICS The results shouldnât be that surprising, distance runners are more efficient running slow. It should be noted that this occurs even with distance runners who violate every known mechanical prophecy known to man (i.e. horrible heel strike, etc.). IS COACHING A SCIENCE OR AN ART? âThis workout is going to make a difference. Start with 100 meters, lengthen out the rep distance by 10 meters, increase the speed byâ Joe Vigil was in full workout mode.. A master of his craft, a man who was always pushing to learn more, Joe Vigil is the epitome of alifelong coach.
NOT HARD, NOT EASY- THE IN-BETWEEN TRAINING DAY Since Bill Bowerman popularized the idea of alternating days in which we do a hard workout and follow it up with a recovery day of, runners have fallen in love with the back and forth nature of intervals and then going for a distance run in the subsequent days. PERCY CERUTTY- THE ECCENTRIC STOTAN Percy Cerutty was an eccentric, yet often overlooked coach, in a historical context. He trained many of the greatest distance runnersof his time.
HARRY WILSON- COACH OF STEVE OVETT Harry Wilson was most known as the coach of world record holder and gold medalist, but he also coached other notable British runners. Before we get into the core of his training beliefs, looking at some of the extra stuff he had his athletes do is needed. ERNST VAN AAKEN: THE PURE ENDURANCE METHOD Most people attribute âjoggingâ or an emphasis on long slow distance running to Arthur Lydiard. While he may have popularized the idea of building a big base of steady running, others around the world were coming up with the same idea at similar times. INFLAMMATION NATION- IS INFLAMMATION GOOD OR BAD Over the past year or so, the idea of making sure not to inhibit the training effect has risen in popularity.
