About. The Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) was founded in 1988 by a group of Ladakhi college students who felt that the education system needed great change. For many years, SECMOL worked on reforming the government school system. At the same time, SECMOL Campus grew into a eco-village where students, staffand

Renewable Energy. Ladakh is the northernmost region in the Jammu & Kashmir State of India. It can be called a ‘Trans-Himalayan high altitude desert’ with minimum temperature in winters -20°C to -35° and hardly any rainfall.VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering. SECMOL welcomes volunteers, their work, and the inter-cultural exchange and understanding they bring. However in 2020 and 2021, things are disrupted. If you understand and agree to the activities, minimum 4 weeks, paying for your room and board, and the available months, then fill in this form and submit it. PASSIVE SOLAR HEATING Passive Solar Heating. SECMOL buildings are heated without emitting CO2 or burning anything fuel such as firewood or gas, nor electric heaters. Passive solar design absorbs heat from the sun and then stores it as long as possible. It does not use circulating water pipes, air blowers, or moving parts. We still do have to buy a lot of supplies from the market, but we try to grow as much as possible, then buy from farmers in Ladakh, and finally what we VISITING STUDENT GROUPS Visiting Student Groups. SECMOL hosts a selected few student groups interested in cultural exchange and environmental and development issues. They are mostly groups of students, and occasionally groups of adults on learning tours. Groups stay at SECMOL Campus and share in daily activities and discussions. Foundation Year. Foundation Year is a year-long residential programme for 40 students from Ladakh aged 16-18: students who passed class 10 but want a gap year for learning. Ice Skating. Ice hockey is hugely popular in Ladakh, but most rural kids do not get a chance due to lack of skates and equipment.
