Selma Cafe is currently operating on an occasional basis with fundraisers for a variety of local causes. Our most recent event: Saturday December 17, from 8am-noon at Great Oak Cohousing, 500 Little Lake Dr. Ann Arbor, 48103.. What a sweet day of fabulous food, amazing volunteers, visits from so many previous volunteers, friends and supporters of Selma Cafe, over 200 guests, and Selma Cafe’s veryfirst flash mob.
MICHAEL SCHMID & MEL ADAMS: IS THERE NOTHING YOU CAN’T DO Scroll up a ways, and take a look at Michael and Mel. Yup, he’s wearing the bright yellow apron and she’s go that gorgeous grin. At various times, as Selma volunteers they have filled the following roles: bacon fryer, waffle maker, egg poacher, coffee runner, server, dish washer, table clearer, food prepster and kitchen angel (defined as doing what needs doing without being asked). TASTE OUR GOODS, FOOD AND WATER WATCH, ONE MILLION ACTS OF August 7, 2010. It was a big week here at Selma Cafe. Suzy Lipton of TOG is hitting the road for some new adventures, but before she leaves town, she and her new TOG replacement, Elena Levin, brought usbreakfast.

Michael Schmid, Melanie Adams and Andrew Bozio traded in their usual (meaning we can’t do without them) Selma Cafe volunteer roles last week, and stepped up to bat as chefs. HOOP HOUSE DETROIT: 1 DAY, 1 HOOP! Hoop House Detroit: 1 day, 1 hoop! August 4, 2009. Our first hoop house build took place on Rosa Parks Blvd. in Detroit last Saturday, on Greg Willerer’s Brother Nature Produce farm, from early morning until we lost the light. We completed nearly every PORTAGE RIVER FARM HOOP BUILD August 26, 2010. I’ve always loved before and after photos. From fashion make-overs and new hair-dos, to closet re-organizations and house remodels, there is something so fun and gratifying about changes that improve or add value to something. SELMA FRIDAYS: MAY 8 WITH AARON LINDELL May 9, 2009. Selma Friday started at 6:30pm Thursday evening when a great crew of folks showed up to prep. New volunteers Lynda Cole, Paul Malboeuf, Kim Bayer and Mindy Matice joined in the fun with regulars Susie Baity Stearns, Garin Fons and Shana Kimball. SELMA CAFE | SELMA CAFE Selma Cafe awards $70,000 in local food and farm grants in 2020. The photos don’t really capture the absolute lux of the indulgence of both the whipped cream and the hollandaise sauce, but hey, it’s a bit of a challenge to chef and take pictures! STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE & ASPARAGUS AND MUSHROOM QUICHE June 21, 2011. It’s such a blast to chef for Selma Cafe this time of year. NEW DECEMBER 2019: SELMA CAFE ASPIRING GROWER IMPACT GRANT December 4, 2019. We are excited to share that Selma Cafe is offering money to support up-and-coming local farmers and growers who have an idea for a new project, to buy some equipment, grow their farms in specific ways, or any other need that will support their success, including flower growers and those using local botanicals and local ingredients to make body care products like salves and THE VERY FIRST SELMA CAFE HAPPY HOUR! November 28, 2010. It was a really sweet post-Thanksgiving Selma Cafe Friday. We had Roos Roast coffee, Arbor Teas tea, hot cider with cinnamon, and donuts. THE VERY FIRST SELMA CAFE HAPPY HOUR! What a great evening of drinks (thanks Eric and Adam, and the Grange Kitchen and Bar), snacks (butter popped popcorn), music (thanks Chad Pratt for the playlist) and the really lovely and fun guests who came over to have a few drinks, support Selma Cafe, and help us celebrate our 4 years of local food breakfasts.Huge thanks to the crew of volunteers who came out to help set up, wash glasses SAVA BROUGHT IT. FOR REAL. What can I say about Sava from Babo Market and Sava Restaurant? Fabulous. Creative. Brings it. Fed us well. With lemon ricotta pancakes topped with a slightly savory cherry sauce, and huevos rancheros with a side of Biercamp chorizo and Sava’s special hot sauce, there were a lot of happy guests at Selma. Proceeds from the Selma Cafe breakfasts have created new local food production in dozens of hoop-houses, adding over 80,000 sf of four-season production to our food-shed. AARON VAN DYKE & KYOKO YAMAMOTO SERVED 250 GUESTS IN Thank you Aaron, Kyoko, and all the volunteers who came together to serve 250 guests in record breaking time. The Quiche Lorraine and the Tomato, Basil & Cheese Scramble were both delicious, and the amuse bouche of virgin bloody mary and dessert of pastry cream & blueberry stuffed creme puff were the perfect start and end to the morning’sspecials.

It was a rainy start to our second hoop build of the spring, but we were ready. At least it was warm, and there was a good chance of sun for later in the day. BRINES FARM HOOP BUILD October 5, 2010. Shannon Brines, of Brines Farm has been growing greens year ’round in his three hoop houses since 2005 in nearby Dexter, and his produce is so popular there is a waiting list to get a CSA share. That wait list will likely be shorter this year with the recent build of Shannon’s fourth hoop house. All in all it was areally great day.
