10 WAYS TO GET YOUR SEWING MOJO BACK! I’ll be honest – I’m putting together this post for myself! I’ve totally fallen out of my creative habits and I want to give myself a push to get back into it. A lot of people think (and I used to think!) that creativity had to be spontaneous, off the cuff, random. I’ve realised QUICK & EASY KIDS PANTS Open your pants out to create the pants shape. Pin your pants leg seams together then sew all the way around from ankle to ankle. Overlock or zig zag your seams to finish. Create a casing at the top of your pants for the elastic. If you are using your sewing machine, fold over 1/2cm, then fold over 3cm. (If overlocking – overlock rawedge
SCRAPPY POT HOLDERS
Baste together with a couple of pins if desired. Add some lines of quilting to secure the layers together. The layers of batting and insul-bright add quite a lot of bulk so simple lines work best. Once you are done, trim it down to 10″ x 10″, or so that all the layers meet evenly at each edge. SCRAPPY FABRIC STRIP ZIPPER POUCH a 12″ zipper. rotary cutter and mat. 1. Cut and press your fabric strips. Line them up next to each other and choose which ones you want to sew together for each panel. There is 7 strips per panel. 2. Sew the strips together along the long edges using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press seams open. MARMALADE HEXIE MUG RUG This one has been on the WIP pile for aaaaaaages. All I had to do was bind it, but so many other projects were shiny and distracting demanded my attention. You know how it is. I made this hexie mug rug as my demonstration piece at when I was a guest at the Brother Australia stand at the Craft and Quilt Fair in Melbourne recently. DIY BEADED ZIPPER PULL 1. Take a head pin and arrange your beads. Leave approximately 1cm (1/2″) of wire at the top. 2. If necessary, use your wire cutting pliers to cut your head pin to size. 3. Use the round nose pliers to twist the top of the head pin into a loop. You may need to manipulateit
HOW TO MAKE RUFFLES USING YOUR SERGER or overlocker. Whatever you would like to call it. In Australia we call sergers ‘overlockers’ so that is what I will call it for the rest of the post. My overlocker is a very recent addition – my husband bought it for me as a surprise for my birthday (nice one huh?)When I got

11/05/2015. If you’ve are on Instagram you will have seen about a million of these One Hour Baskets! They looked fun and practical and I was keen for a quick project after having my nose to the grind stone all week making a quilt for a friend’s 40th birthday. I had a bunch of scraps and I do love a scrappy project, so I made two quilt-as HOW TO SEW A SELVEDGE PANEL After making my One Hour Basket using selvedges last week I had lots of readers keen for me to share how I sewed up the selvedges into a panel to be able to use them for projects.. Here are all the details and step by step pictures so you can make some awesome selvedge projects. To make a panel for any project – bag, basket, zipper pouch – I start with my selvedges and a layer of batting DIFFERENT TYPES OF SEAMS Method 1: With right sides of fabric facing, sew a line of stitching 5/8″ from the edge of the fabric. Cut roughly half of the seam allowance off, on one side of the seam only. Zig zag or overlock the uncut edge. Press the seam to one side, so the uncut edge covers the QUILTING FOR BEGINNERS In my view there are essentially four stages to making a quilt: 1) Preparation – selecting a design and fabric, washing fabric. 2) Making the quilt top – cutting and ‘piecing’ (sewing) together the blocks. 3) Quilting – sandwiching the batting in the middle of MARMALADE HEXIE MUG RUG This one has been on the WIP pile for aaaaaaages. QUILTED SEWING MACHINE COVERS My quilted sewing machine cover has to be one of my all time favourite projects I’ve ever made, and it’s been a pretty huge favourite for you too! Today I’m sharing some AMAZING versions that other fantastic sewers have made and shared with me. I am in a group on Facebook called The Sewing Library and the April project was to make a sewing machine cover. PILLOWCASE TO DRAWSTRING BAG Take your pillowcase and turn it inside out. Use your seam ripper to split one side seam 5cm (2″) from the top. This split creates the opening to thread your ribbon through to make the drawstring. If your fabric is a bit raggedy on the edge, just fold the edge in and press it down. Stitch it if it continues to misbehave.*
