JEREMIAH’S GREAT ESCHATOLOGICAL VISION (PART 3) Paul Henebury | Friday, Sep 20, 2019 discussRead the series .
THE GUARANTEE OF THE LORD OF CREATION AND PROVIDENCE Returning to where we left off in Jeremiah 31, after Jeremiah has revealed a New covenant to replace the Mosaic covenant, he is given revelation which underlines its validity. > Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, the > ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, who > disturbs the sea, and its waves roar (The LORD of hosts _is _His> name):
>
> If those ordinances depart from before Me, says the LORD, t_hen _the > seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me> forever.”

> Thus says the LORD: “If heaven above can be measured, and the> foundations...

MUSIC IN THE BIBLE AND THE CONTEMPORARY MUSIC STYLES DEBATE (PART 3) TylerR | Thursday, Sep 19, 2019 discuss Gregg Strawbridge continues his seriesabout contemporary
music styles in the church. Here, he discusses critical arguments against contemporary music styles. THE ORIGIN OF THE BEAT If the reader tends to agree with the premise that rhythm dominant music is inherently sinful, the implications are grave - since, the music of many cultures (Latin America, Caribbean, African) is “rhythm-dominant.” Perhaps someone will even be willing to argue that the “beat” is evil because it was derived from pagan tribalism and brought to America via slavery. This is what some call the African Connection. One proponent of this view says, > It is irrefutable that rock and roll music...Read more
A BIBLICAL TELEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT FOR IDENTITY, SEX, AND SEXUALITY,PART 2
Christopher Cone | Wednesday, Sep 18, 2019 discussRead Part 1 .
MORAL PERMISSIVE VIEW (CULTURAL DISTANCE THEOLOGY) Built on the essential yet unstated premise that God cannot or will not hold a person morally accountable for what they do not choose, Matthew Vines asserts that “Gay people have a natural, permanent orientation toward those of the same sex. It is not something they choose, and it’s not something they can change. They aren’t abandoning or rejecting heterosexuality—that’s never an option for them to begin with.”9 Vines adds an emotional appeal, emphasizing the hurt caused by viewing homosexuality as wrong: > Being different is no crime. Being gay is not a...Read more
A BIBLICAL TELEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT FOR IDENTITY, SEX, AND SEXUALITY,PART 1
Christopher Cone | Tuesday, Sep 17, 2019 1ABSTRACT
Matthew Vines and others supporting the LGBTQ perspective have argued for a _Moral Permissive View_ on sexual orientation. The argument has been two-tiered: (1) that the more traditional _Moral Prohibitive View_ is based on six Scriptures that are ultimately not relevant to the present discussion, and (2) that in the absence of Biblical data for or against healthy homosexual relationships, Christians should choose the more inclusive, affirming approach rather than condemn suchrelationships.
In order to advance the discussion beyond the stalemate of these two models, and in order to apply a solidly Biblical hermeneutic, this paper proposes a third approach: The _Inherent Design Model_. This third model considers God’s particular design for...Read more
WHAT IS THE GOSPEL? THE POWER AND PERIL OF SHORT GOSPEL DEFINITIONS Aaron Blumer | Monday, Sep 16, 2019 14 At some point during my tenure as a pastor at Grace Baptist, I decided I needed a succinct, memorable expression of the gospel—a phrase I could repeat frequently in a variety of contexts until members of the flock would recall it reflexively. What I came up with is pretty much straight from 1 Corinthians 15:1-4: THE GOSPEL IS THE
GOOD NEWS THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR SINNERS AND ROSE AGAIN. Though I didn’t end up teaching it as well I’d intended, the statement did become an important tool in _my own_ thinking. It eventually became reflexive for _me, _and that was instrumental in a sanctification project God was advancing in my own life. It was instrumental in two ways: First, it increased my gospel awareness in general sermon...Read more
MUSIC IN THE BIBLE AND THE CONTEMPORARY MUSIC STYLES DEBATE (PART 2) TylerR | Friday, Sep 13, 2019 11 This series continues as Gregg Strawbridge examines some common arguments against contemporary music styles in the church. THE NATURAL LAW ARGUMENT Bill Gothard (1986), a well-known critic of CM says, “There is no such thing as amoral music.” He diagrams an analogy between other disciplines and music. “The following disciplines illustrate how the purity of an item can be corrupted by adding even a small amount of another element” (p. 124). * Chemistry: H2O + CN = poison * Language: truth + lie = untruth * Math: solution + 1 = incorrect * Art: figure + nudity = pornography * Music: rhythm + imbalance = acid rock However impressive...Read more
IS THE 1689 BAPTIST CONFESSION SUFFICIENTLY MISSIONAL? Bob Gonzales | Thursday, Sep 12, 2019 3 Evangelistic outreach and missions is of prime importance to the church. But neither the Westminster Confession (WCF) nor the Second London Baptist Confession (2LCF) gives much expression or emphasis to the church’s responsibility to take the gospel to all the nations. The chapter “Of the church” (WCF, ch. 25; 2LCF, ch. 26
),
is an exposition of the nature of the church universal and local, its authority, its institution, its membership, its government, its worship, and its fraternal relations. But the chapter offers no clear and comprehensive summary of the church’s duty to publish the gospel outside the four walls of its sanctuary. The Great...

9/11 AND THE RAPTURE Paul J. Scharf | Wednesday, Sep 11, 2019 4 Most likely you remember where you were when you first learned of the terror that came to America’s shores on the morning of September 11,2001.
It is not at all difficult for me to remember, as I first heard of the attacks after teaching a class on the book of Daniel at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, where I was serving as an adjunct professor.1 As I got in my car after class, I remember turning on the radio. First, I tried to listen to the news, but I could not truly comprehend what I was hearing. I remember switching to Dr. David Jeremiah on _Turning Point_. Ironically, his scheduled message for that day, from his series on the book of Revelation, was entitled—so appropriately—“When All Hell Breaks...Read more
