THE APOSTLE PAUL AND HIS RIGHTS AS A ROMAN CITIZEN Doug Kutilek is the editor of www.kjvonly.org, which opposes KJVOism. He has been researching and writing in the area of Bible texts and versions for more than 35 years. He has a BA in Bible from Baptist Bible College (Springfield, MO), an MA in Hebrew Bible from Hebrew Union College and a ThM in Bible exposition from Central Baptist Theological Seminary (Plymouth, MN). PROMISES TO ISRAEL: WE SHOULD EXPECT LITERAL FULFILLMENT The Apostle Paul is clear on the great privileges that God has granted Israel. He wrote in Romans 9:4: “who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises.”. Paul nowhere intimates that these great privileges have been annulled, forfeited, or cancelled. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE FIVE QUOTATIONS OF ISAIAH 6:9-10 All quotations of Isaiah 6:9-10 in the NT occur in the context of national Israel’s unbelief in Jesus as Messiah and the kingdom of God He presented as “near” ( Matt. 4:17 ). This passage is applied to Israel as a corporate entity even though some individual Jews were believing in Jesus. In Matthew 13:14-15 Jesus applied Isaiah 6:9-10 to REVELATION 19:15 AND THE COMING REIGN OF JESUS OVER THE Revelation 19:15a indicates that Jesus will “strike down the nations.”. The term patasso means to “strike” or “beat” and reveals a decisive defeat of God’s enemies. Since the nations of the earth are still in rebellion against God this statement awaits future fulfillment. Then the WHEN MAY CHRISTIANS DIVORCE? The bottom line. The bottom line is a Christian may divorce under the following scenarios, each of which is an egregious fracture of the marriage covenant: Sexual betrayal: physical adultery or an egregious, repeated and seemingly (to a reasonable person) unrepentant breach of sexual allegiance more generally ( Deut 24:1; Mt 5:32, 19:9) Neglect MACARTHUR AND "THE BLOOD" CONTROVERSY The “blood controversy” involving John MacArthur and Bob Jones, Jr. is infamous within Baptist fundamentalism. IS CONGREGATIONAL VOTING BIBLICAL? Voting is a common practice in most congregations, granting members a voice in the church’s affairs and decision making. 1. It is widely assumed that voting in church is biblical, or if not biblical, a matter of freedom. Many believe it provides safety for the congregation and is a good way to build consensus in the church.SHARPER IRON

Each chapter is replete with copious footnotes and historical examples. Indeed, perhaps her book’s greatest strength is its role as a tour guide to a world of scholarly historical monographs on gender roles in the West. Populist readers may dismiss Barr out of THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE FIVE QUOTATIONS OF ISAIAH 6:9-10 All quotations of Isaiah 6:9-10 in the NT occur in the context of national Israel’s unbelief in Jesus as Messiah and the kingdom of God He presented as “near” ( Matt. 4:17 ). This passage is applied to Israel as a corporate entity even though some individual Jews were believing in Jesus. FROM THE ARCHIVES – DID AMERICANS INVENT CHURCH VOTING? Jeff Brown | Thursday, May 21, 2020 discuss There are legitimate questions for Christians to ask as they study their Bibles and become active in a church. Some questions are worth pursuing endlessly (questions about the character of Christ, for instance). Others have their limits, particularly when little or nothing is directly said in the Bible about them. As the discussion becomes long and drawn out, it also becomes, well, odd. We become either speculative or dogmatic without substance, since there is little in Scripture that substantiates our arguments. Whether Christians should vote, or did vote in the New Testament times is one of those types of questions. It is legitimate to ask, but limited in its worth. There is only one time in the Bible that Christians are directly said to have voted, where a proper Greek word for “...Read more

WHAT’S THE RELEVANCE TO US? The questions I’ve raised above are not ivory tower speculations. I believe these questions are important to answer if we are to understand fully the implications Christ’s temptation as well as his victory over temptation for you and me. Consider the following three points of practical application: (1) UNLESS THE JESUS CHRIST HAD FACED REAL TEMPTATIONS AND SUCCESSFULLY ENDURED THOSE TEMPTATIONS AS A REAL MAN NOT YET GLORIFIED, HE COULD NOT BE OUR SAVIOR FROM SIN. That’s pretty relevant, wouldn’t you say? Is...Read more
GOD, JUSTICE, AND THE CANAANITES TylerR | Monday, May 18, 2020 28 Some Christians have always been troubled by God’s command to the Israelites to kill all the pagan inhabitants of the Promised Land. Moses ordered the people to “devote them to complete destruction,” (Deut 7:2 ). Why would God do this? Where’s the mercy? Where’s the love? There are at least two reasons why God did this.BECAUSE OF SINS
First, God did it because of the terrible sins of the pagan nations > Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart > are you going in to possess their land, but because of the > wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out > from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the Lord > swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob (Deut 9:5> ).

FROM THE ARCHIVES – PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE THIS POST Aaron Blumer | Thursday, May 14, 2020 1From 2011.
I’m dead serious about the title of this little essay. I’ll explain later. The focus of this piece is the need for more and better critical thinking (some of you probably already see the connection tothe title).
Interacting on the Web for the last three years—culminating in the last three days—has revealed a severe lack of critical thinking. By “lack of critical thinking” I do not mean lack of criticism! (As a college friend of mine would say “Nay, verily!”) What I mean by critical thinking here is the discipline of looking at a highly emotional situation and intentionally subjecting claims on all sides to healthy skepticism and—above all—vigorously questioning our own “gut feelings” and reasoning.I...

WARNING & WOOING
Clint Archer | Thursday, May 14, 2020 discuss The ignition of the Great Awakening began at Enfield, Connecticut. It was July 8, 1741, when a local congregation of well-to-do Americans went to church to hear the guest speaker, Jonathan Edwards. He is known in evangelical circles as the man who best articulated a theology of joy. It was Jonathan Edwards who wrote _Religious Affections_ in which he insists that true religion is one that brings joy and satisfaction in Christ alone, and that every decision is made according to man’s greatest desire, and that the only way to live a life pleasing to God is to be so entranced with God’s majesty and beauty, so enraptured with his grace and mercy, that one’s life brims over with the joy of serving him alone. Nascent “Christian hedonism” if you will. But it was not for this...Read more
MY TAKE ON THE NEW COVENANT (PART 9) Paul Henebury | Tuesday, May 12, 2020 4Read the series .
Having come to a conclusion about the foremost question in the debate about the range of the New Covenant and its connection to Jesus Christ, I want to spread out before the reader my reasons for _identifying_ Him with the NC. These reasons are roughly, exegetical, theological, and devotional. I see no need to go back over the arguments for Luke 22, 1 Corinthians 11, 2 Corinthians 3, and the the Book of Hebrews (although I shall look into Heb. 9:16-17). However, I will
provide a summary of the teaching of these passages as I interpret them, and add several further thoughts. SOME EXEGETICAL ARGUMENTS In Luke 22:19-20 our Lord first refers to His body:> ...
