Museum Library. The Simeone Foundation research library is one of the largest automotive specialized libraries in the world and is pleased to announce the addition of new facilities to our research library. Assembled over 50 years by Dr. Frederick Simeone, the Museum contains over 75 BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS Located in Philadelphia, PA, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars. The first serious attempt to revive sports car racing in the U.S. after WWII was at Watkins Glen, NY in 1948. Here the cars lined up, side-by-side, on the main street of this Finger Lakes resort town for the start of the race on public streets. For the first few years, they ran the race on a 6.6 1967 FORD GT40 MK IV Our car ran at Le Mans in 1967, the only race in its competition history, and then outlawed. This car is in unrestored, original, as-raced condition. THESE CARS The Mark IV was the ultimate evolution of the GT40 series and was replete with a variety of outstanding technological features. He built only 7 of these beautiful automobiles. THESE CARS As a young man, Adrian Squire dreamed of making the perfect sports car. Having inherited about $150,000, in 193 CHADWICK | SIMEONE FOUNDATION AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM Hailing from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the Chadwick Engineering Works was founded by a young engineer by the name of Lee Sherman Chadwick. It was in business from 1904-1916 and was known for the production of high-quality cars. Not to give up, Abbott Detroit for 1915 made another distinctive sports car, the 8-80 Roadster. “This is the finest appearing to passenger roadster in America that has all the style finish and equipment of the most expensive roadster ever marketed. 1964 SHELBY COBRA DAYTONA COUPE This car is the first of just 6 built and is the only one left in original, unrestored condition. In 2014 it was named IHMA “Car of the Year”, and was the 1st car on HVA’s National Historic Vehicle Registry. A car with an unusual streamlined all enveloping body and 57G engine was tested on June 7, 1936 at Montlhéry. They sometimes referred it to as “the aerodynamic mule” which became the prototype of the three 57G Tanks. BIDDLE MOTOR CAR COMPANY Biddle. These cars were built from 1919 to 1922 when the Biddle name was one of Philadelphia’s royalty. The company seems to have difficulty finding its way, because for some years no sports cars were illustrated, but other times they produced an exciting sports car with a Rochester Duesenberg engine, quite advanced for the time. By 1957 the car’s first two races culminated in 2nd place finishes. With a new 3 litre engine the car won the Spa Grand Prix but Le Mans was still out of reach. The French Le Mans authorities outlawed engines greater than 3 litres for1958

The Simeone Foundation research library is one of the largest automotive specialized libraries in the world and is pleased to announce the addition of new facilities to our research library. The first serious attempt to revive sports car racing in the U.S. after WWII was at Watkins Glen, NY in 1948. Here the cars lined up, side-by-side, on the main street of this Finger Lakes resort town for the start of the race on public streets. Becoming a volunteer at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum gives you the opportunity to learn more about our collection and its history, to meet new friends with similar interests and to serve as an advocate for our mission and the “Spirit of 1912 HUDSON ROADSTER Our 1912 Hudson “Mile-A-Minute” Speedster was a pure sports car designed for both racing and ordinary street use. Volunteers at the Simeone Museum come from all ages and all walks of life and are an important part of our museum. We have happy to have a diverse group of dedicated volunteers that are the lifeblood of the museum and help make this place great. 1933 SQUIRE ROADSTER Squire built these cars to such a high standard, and at such great cost, which unfortunately put the company out of business. He built only 7 of these beautiful automobiles. THESE CARS As a young man, Adrian Squire dreamed of making the perfect sports car. Having inherited about $150,000, in 193 1958 ASTON MARTIN DBR1 This car won the 1958 Nurburgring 1000km race and raced at Le Mans 4 times. Legends drove it such as Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, and Carroll Shelby. THESE CARS Since purchasing Aston Martin, after reading an obscure advertisement in a British newspaper in 1946, owner David Brown want 1964 SHELBY COBRA DAYTONA COUPE This car is the first of just 6 built and is the only one left in original, unrestored condition. In 2014 it was named IHMA “Car of the Year”, and was the 1st car on HVA’s National Historic Vehicle Registry. THESE CARS After his Le Mans victory with an Aston Martin DBR1 in 1959, Carrol CHADWICK | SIMEONE FOUNDATION AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM Why The American Sports Car? This series intends to bring to light the interesting sports cars that American manufacturers proposed in their sales literature, in a failing attempt to interest American buyers. Nevertheless, these stillborn vehicles were of interesting design and their memory should be revived. Fortunately, our library has an extensive collection of sales literature which The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum will be closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.__
