SJCC PREPARES TO REOPEN IN THE FALL OF 2021 The college is planning to partially reopen the campus and in-person classes in the fall, SJCC President Rowena Tomaneng said in a virtual town hall meeting Thursday, March 18. “We have activated the ERTs (Emergency Response Teams),” Tomaneng said. “We're going to be holding joint meetings twice a month, so EVERYONE SHOULD GET VACCINATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE As of April 19, COVID-19 vaccines became available for everyone 16+. Before this, the shot was only accessible to essential workers. There has been controversy debating if people should get vaccinated or not, one main reason being that it was created in such a short amount of time. Money and resources were two big MEDIA IS A REFLECTION OF SOCIETY Accuracy over speed The first aspect of news the audience must receive from the media is accuracy. It seems media has given more importance to breaking news before their fellow network competitors rather than verifying the information that will be presented on the air, online or radio. I met some great professors and students, my student visa allowed me to stay longer in the U.S. but for the most part, for my personal point of view, it was a waste of money. INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION KEY TO POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH People have become more reliant on technology in order to do tasks or to talk to people during the COVID-19 pandemic. The transition to online communication hasn’t been easy for everyone. “It’s not enough emotion not as fulfilling,” said Tiffany Rodriguez-Tran, an outreach/recruitment specialist at SJCC. VIETNAMESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION HOLDS VIRTUAL GRADUATION The Vietnamese Students Association held its 2nd annual graduation over Zoom on May 14 and granted two scholarships to students in the program.
