I read a few pages every night, maybe a chapter — I plod through. The second type is gripping. RACISM – SONYA ELLEN MANN The Tintin books are super racist, stuffed with offensive stereotypes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the parts of them that are heartwarming and hilarious. Hello! TWITTER – SONYA ELLEN MANN Barnacles is a clone of the Hacker News clone Lobsters, but Barnacles is aimed at bootstrapping entrepreneurs instead of general software devs. It’s a lot like Hacker News, actually, but maintained for small-scale internet businesspeople instead of enterprise employees. Barnacles is pretty low-volume compared to a place like /r/Entrepreneur, but that means it’s more thoughtful.CREATIVE COMMONS
I came across another delightful Creative Commons post! (The last one was “Just Your Typical Startup Acquisition Announcement”.)It’s called “Bots Should Punch Up”, written by Leonard Richardson, and Beau Gunderson is the person who linked me to it. I’m republishing the essay here, unedited except for one set of punctuation marks.BEN THOMPSON
I came across Tracy-Gregory Gilmore’s list of people who have influenced him, and I found the idea charming. Exposure to a few different people’s ideas has been incalculably valuable to me, and I want to publicly thank them like Gilmore did. SLACK – SONYA ELLEN MANN Hi! Since you’re reading this, I assume you’re interested in starting a Slack community. But just in case you’re unfamiliar with the phenomenon: Slack is a SaaS company that sells its communication platform to other businesses. Slack has been highly praised for its design and ease of use. ABOUT
Hello, visitor! My name is Sonya Mann, as indicated by the URL. For work, I run communications at the Zcash Foundation and occasionally write articles.
Avatar created by my friend Polyducks . Rabbits are my favorite animal (followed by beluga whales). The abiding question that drives my curiosity: “How and why do people organize themselves in the ways that they do?” I’m fascinated by microeconomics and tribalism (especially weirdsubcultures).
This website is where I archive almost everything that I’ve made — and sporadically blog about my momentary obsessions. If you’re here to see what my writing is like, head over to the portfolio page next.PROJECTS
Subscribe to my newsletter ! It’s supposed to be monthly, but realistically goes outquarterly-ish.
Exolymph was a cyberpunk newsletter — it’s now defunct, but the archiveswill stay up
indefinitely. In addition to general musings on the state of our techno-dystopia, I occasionally interviewed people and wrote flash fiction.

April 28, 2019 at 12:36 pm It’s not just about who I might find, for me. It’s also about who my creations will find. You never know until you put it out there. Although, finding a good supportive audience can be a tough road until one’s gained some traction or gotten lucky publishing. There’s so much content out there, it can be hard to stand out inthe crowd.
