The second volume in the new editon of Nga Moteatea: The Songs. The series Nga Moteatea is the largest collection of Maori waiata, complete with English translations, annotations, and supporting CDs. SOUNZ TE ARA PUORO: A JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF MĀORI MUSIC One of the largely unseen consequences of the European colonisation of Aotearoa was that the playing of, and knowledge about the traditional musical instruments of the Maori almost completely disappeared. In the 1970s a young Pakeha schoolteacher, Richard Nunns, started asking questions of his MaoriSOUNZ 'WHETU-RERE'

David Hamilton studied at Auckland University (1974-1979), gaining Master of Music (1st class honours), and was Head of Music at Epsom Girls Grammar School, Auckland until 2001. He continued to conduct EGGS’ award-winning girls’ choir Opus until the end of 2003, and conducted St Mary’s Schola from 2008 to 2012. SOUNZ HIRINI MELBOURNE AND RICHARD NUNNS In 1994 Hirini Melbourne and Richard Nunns walked into a recording studio to make an album that marked the culmination of 30 years of travel, research, korero, composing and performing. The resulting CD, Te Ku Te Whe has since gone on to become pivotal to the rediscovery of sounds and practices of the taonga puoro (traditional Maoriinstruments).

She assists at the entrances into and the exits from the world, with rituals concerned with tattooing of the lips prior to marriage, with the raising of tapu, and she is credited by some iwi with the introduction of weaving into the culture.
