The Story Museum is the most unusual museum in Oxford. Through immersive exhibitions, gallery spaces & events, we celebrate story inall forms.

Welcome to 1001 great stories, carefully chosen with the help of our audiences and advisors. Stories from different times and places; Stories for different age groups and interests WHAT'S ON | THE STORY MUSEUM Discover the upcoming magical events, performances, talks, courses & workshops happening at The Story Museum. Book your tickets today. NASREDDIN HODJA: SEVEN STORIES Story. There are many stories of Nasreddin, trickster and teacher, but the tradition is that you can’t tell just one, you have to tell seven. So here are seven stories about donkeys and drought, tiger powder and a lost ring, sharing almonds, borrowing pots and washing acat.
DEATH IN A NUTSHELL
Story. A son tries to defeat death to save his mother but discovers that you can’t have life without death. Why we chose it. Death in a Nutshell was one of the stories in our original audio storiescollection.
THE AWONGALEMA TREE
Story. A long time ago it didn’t rain for a year, and all the animals were very hungry. One day, four animal friends – Monkey, Buffalo, Lion and Tortoise – remembered there was a magic tree that produced delicious fruit if its name was said underneath it. TATTERHOOD | THE STORY MUSEUM Story. A king and queen are sad to have no children. A beggar woman agreed to help them but the queen disobeys the advice she is given and gives birth to two girls, the younger gentle and beautiful, the older wild and ugly, who rides a goat and brandishes a wooden spoon. THE BLIND MAN AND THE HUNTER Story. A blind man is frequently asked how he is so wise. He smiles and replies, “because I see with my ears.” His sister marries a hunter who mocks the man for his blindness.THE UNLUCKY MAN
Story. A man bemoans the fact that he is always unlucky. He goes to see a wise woman and on the way meets a wolf, a tree and a woman who all have questions of their own. THE TALKATIVE TORTOISE This was one of the stories in our original audio story collection. These stories are particularly suitable for learning to retell. THE UNLUCKY MAN

He tells the story of his dream to a man on the bridge, who laughs at him but when in return the man tells the story of his dream the pedlar realises that what he seeks may be closer to home than he thought.ISSUN BOSHI

Opening Times. The Story Museum and the City of Stories film are currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. City of Stories will reopen along with the Galleries from Saturday 22 May 2021. MOUSE DEER AND TIGER Story. Tiger wants to eat Mouse Deer for his dinner but tiny Mouse Deer is cunning and outwits Tiger. Why we chose it. Mouse Deer and Tiger was part of The Story Museum’s original audio stories collection. Children love trickster tales and Mouse Deer is an usual trickster who may not be familiar. WALLACE AND GROMIT: A GRAND DAY OUT Story. A Grand Day Out is a short stop-motion animation featuring eccentric inventor Wallace and his loyal dog Gromit. Varjak Paw is a pampered kitten whose family have lived in the Contessa’s home for generations.
