AVIEMORE | BOAT OF GARTEN | BROOMHILL _TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE__FESTIVE SERVICES_
AFTER VERY CAREFUL CONSIDERATION, WE HAVE CONCLUDED THAT WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPERATE OUR POPULAR SANTA EXPRESS STEAM TRAINS IN 2020. Our Santa Steam Trains have operated for many years based on a Festive atmosphere which includes singing, Elves and lots of interaction withSanta himself.
We do not believe it is possible to safely deliver the best visitor experience within the current Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Scottish Government. We recognise that this will be upsetting news for many of our passengers, however, the safety and satisfaction of our visitors, staff and volunteers is paramount. We hope to be able to welcome you aboard our Santa Steam Trains in2021.
In the meantime we plan to operate Festive Afternoon Teas and Mince Pie Special Trains on the following dates (see timetable graphic whichfollows):
DECEMBER
5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 19th. 23rd, 29th, 30th and 31stJANUARY 2021
1st and 2nd
We are encouraging everyone to use our online booking service via the website so that we can allocate Passengers the most convenient seating for your journey. A small number of seats may be available for casual booking at Boat of Garten but we strongly recommend that you use the online booking system and plan to join the train at Aviemore. There is plenty of parking space in our own carpark off Dalfaber Road. At the moment we are operating to a reduced timetable so please check the details on the website or at our stations. While travelling with us Passengers must comply with the Scottish Government requirements for face coverings on-board our trains. (These can be removed while eating and drinking, of course). We will also ask you to minimise moving around the carriage during your journey. And finally, once again we are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome you back on-board our trains!” _2020 CRISIS APPEAL_ We continue to run our Crisis Appeal for 2020 and still need assistance to maintain services, particularly during the winter. A very big thank you for all contributions to date. The wellbeing of our visitors, staff and volunteers is still our absolute priority and matters of Health and Safety have our fullattention.
The Strathspey Railway is directed and run by Volunteers and this year’s current circumstances have made a substantial impact on its future. The economic implications of not being able to run a full season have greatly affected what we are able but need to do. * The Strathspey Railway cannot claim insurance compensation for business interruption. * The Government has not offered monetary aid to the heritagesector.
* The only government help currently available would put the railway into significant debt, which would undoubtedly take years to pay off and potentially put its assets at risk during this period. Already this year we have managed to complete major works on locomotive No. 828 and we plan to embark on boiler & mechanical overhaul work on Ivatt No. 46512 as necessary this together with finalising works on Black 5 No. 5025. This is likely to cost upwards of £200k. The Railway requires to raise substantial funding &support.
Please help us keep steam alive in the Highlands to give the Railway and the people who contribute and depend on our activities a reasonable chance to continue its operations into the future. We STILL NEED YOUR HELP for a little while longer. Further details are available via the website link below or directlyvia PayPal.
Thank you

40 YEARS OF STEAM RAIL TRAVEL IN THE HIGHLANDS The Strathspey Railway invites you to step aboard our trains this year and help celebrate forty years of the return of steam travel through the Highlands of Scotland. Brought back to life in 1978 by a dedicated group of volunteers, this ten mile restored section of the original Highland Railway Line enables you to travel back in time to an era when steam whistles blew , carriage doors slammed shut and there was a familiar click-clack, rhythm of the rails, as the train travels along the track. DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT HERE ARE SOME RECENT COMMENTS FROM TRIP ADVISOR _EXCELLENT TRAIN TRIP AND DINNER_ Great steam train trip from Aviemore to Broomhill, with stops along the way. Lovely dinner on board served by very friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommend. Nice touch with piper on the platform ondeparture.
NAME – Liz B (June 2019) REAL STEAM LOCOMOTIVE If you like train rides, this is for you. Train travels between Aviemore and Boat of Garten and then back again. Old style train cars with actual steam locomotive. With reservations, you can dine on the train and watch the scenery passing by. Was worth the visit. NAME – Mantasatnite (May 2019) _ELDEST DAUGHTER AND HER HUBBY_
Joined my sister, wife and I for afternoon tea. What a great experience. Realy good value for money. I have had this type of afternoon before on Blue Bell railway. This compares favourably. Everyone we came into contact with was very jolly. It was raining out side. But who comes to Scotland for a sun tan? the staff on board delivered really good food and wine. Great way to spend an afternoon. Equals a trip to Nessy. NAME – J5309HCgeorgeh (May 2019).
