One of the difficulties with stress is that people experience stress in different ways. This contributes to stress manifesting itself differently. So it would be wrong to over generalise when giving advice on how to identify stress in others. However, what we can say is that because stress has negative effects, it will usually manifest STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE Stress in the workplace can affect every aspect of an organisation, from absenteeism rates to interpersonal relationships. It’s vital to recognise the signs of stress as early as possible so that actions can be taken before serious stress-related illness occur. 4 STRESS-BUSTING FORMS OF EXERCISE All forms of exercise, from yoga to pumping iron can provide stress-relieving benefit. Even if you are not an athlete, a little regular activity can take you a long way in helping manage your stress levels. The following 4 forms of exercise have specific benefits for stress relief. Yoga Yoga is fantastic for health, wellbeing EASY EVERYDAY EXERCISE Following a workshop we recently had in our office on nutrition and exercise, we have been doing daily Isometrics. Isometric exercise is a type of strength training, which is done in a static position, where you are tensing the muscles without moving your joints, because of this; it is the easiest way to discretely do some exercise in your everyday life, whenever and wherever.WHAT IS STRESS?
Unknown by many, there is a third mode that stress can cause; freeze. For some people, becoming stressed sets the stage for ‘dysregulation’. The energy mobilized by the perceived threat gets “locked” into the nervous system and we ‘freeze’. I personally have a hard time saying no to people. It is so much harder to say no than yes and I can feel like I am letting people down if I don’t say yes. Inevitably though by taking more things on, the only person I am harming is myself, as it usually leads to CURVE YOUR STRESS EATING! When we are stressed, our cortisol levels increase. An increase in cortisol can often cause us to crave unhealthier food options. Researchers at the University of California at San Francisco Medical center, concluded that women tend to crave mostly carbohydrates, especially sweet foods. Whereas, a recent survey found 61% of males crave salty snacks when HAPPINESS IS CONTAGIOUS We all know that the key to being happy is adopting a positive mind-set and learning to be content, yet it can be really easy to focus on the negative, or worry about issues that may never arise.
