PLANTAR FASCIITIS ON RISE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC Cases of plantar fasciitis, a common orthopedic ailment, are on the rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to St. Vincent Charity foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Duane Ehredt Jr. “Plantar fasciitis is typically more common in runners over the age of 40, those who may be carrying extra weight or those with flat feet or high arches,” Dr. Ehredt said. “However, with people quarantining at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, many are replacing trips to the gym with daily running or walking. Then, they may come home and walk barefoot or wear flip flops the rest of the day. In addition, some have become more sedentary during stay at home orders.” All of this, Dr. Ehredt said, contributes to an increase in cases of plantar fasciitis.SEPTEMBER 1, 2020
OPINION: A DISASTROUS CENSUS UNDERCOUNT LOOMS. ACT NOW TO PROTECT NEOHIO’S FUTURE.
Information being collected right now for the 2020 Census will shape how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds flow into communities for the next 10 years. Counting everyone in a community helps leaders effectively plan for the future and informs funding decisions for critical public services. 2020 Census response rates vary significantly throughout Northeast Ohio. In the city of Cleveland, not even half (47.9%) of households have been counted yet. A Sunday opinion piece on Cleveland.com urged everyone to respond to the census before the September 30 deadline.AUGUST 25, 2020

HEALTH PROGRESS: ROSARY HALL IN CLEVELAND FIGHTS ADDICTION At Rosary Hall in Cleveland, they don't like to talk about waiting lists. When someone struggling with addiction seeks help, they try to provide it — right then, right there. During daytime hours, Rosary Hall accepts walk-in patients, people seeking immediate treatment for alcoholism and drug dependency. The approach to immediately admit those in need hearkens back to Rosary Hall's founder, a slight but stalwart religious sister. Sr. Mary Ignatia Gavin, CSA, was first in the nation to admit patients to a general hospital for treatment ofalcoholism.
