WINKS MEADOW NATURE RESERVE Winks Meadow is rich in wild flowers. It supports a wide range of plants characteristic of ancient unimproved grassland including a number of species that are scarce in Suffolk such as: spiny restharrow, sulphur clover and quaking grass.WILDLIFE GARDENING
By celebrating Living Gardens alive with animals and plants, rather than focusing on tasks and target species, Suffolk Wildlife Trust hopes to improve gardens’ role as vital wildlife corridors while inspiring and helping more people to let nature back in. FISH, PONDS AND WILDLIFE Fish, ponds and wildlife. Analysis of Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s pond survey data has re-inforced the message that fish – even small numbers of tiny stickleback – can significantly reduce the wildlife value of a pond. Data from more than 900 Suffolk ponds has showed that 17% contained fish, with different species affecting amphibians BLACK BOURN VALLEY NATURE RESERVE About the reserve. Suffolk Wildlife Trust has been ‘wilding’ the Black Bourn Valley by taking fields out of arable farming and allowing nature to take over. The first field was left over twenty years ago and is now an impenetrable thicket of hawthorn, blackthorn and dog rose – perfect for blackcap and other warblers in summer and flocks BRADFIELD WOODS NATIONAL NATURE RESERVE About the reserve. Bradfield Woods is one of Britain’s finest ancient woodlands and is a glorious haven for wildlife. Bradfield woods is a working wood that is unique as it has been under continuous traditional coppice management since 1252, fulfilling local needs for firewood and hazel products.
