ABOUT US | SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES Sustainable Coastlines Hawai‘i started in 2010 with 8 friends sitting around a table in a small house in Kaimuki. Inspired by our good friends Sustainable Coastlines in New Zealand, we decided to take keeping our beaches clean into our own hands while making the work fun. What we’ve learned along the way is that cleanups can only doso much.
SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES SCH has risen to a world recognized nonprofit having cleared over half a million pounds of debris from Hawaii’s coasts, united over 35,000 volunteers in a mission to inspire local communities to care for their coastlines, educated over 40,000 students in classrooms around the State, and connected with millions globally through social media SCHTORIES - SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES HAWAI‘I SCHtories are your connection into the world of Sustainable Coastlines Hawai‘i. Our goal is to do more then tell you what’s happened - our goal with SCHtories is to open a multimedia forum for you to directly interact with our mission, ambassadors, education resources, volunteer heroes, artists, science and research, breaking news, and our sponsors. To turn off the tap on plastic pollution EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii’s Education program is solutions-based, interactive, and fun. Educators focus on defining marine debris, where it comes from, how it affects wildlife and people, and most importantly: what we can do about it. CONTACT US - SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES HAWAI‘I Oops! At Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi, we love cleaning beaches. Over the last 10 years, we've removed over a half a million pounds of debris from Hawaiʻi coastlines with the help of 30,000 volunteers. Beach cleanups are an awesome educational tool and a great way to make an impact, but we should also be working on SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES While sourdough is cooking, slice top off of garlic bulb and wrap in foil with 1 tsp. olive oil and salt + pepper to taste. Roast in oven, along with sourdough, for 30-45 minutes or until soft. Chop onions and celery, and slice mushrooms. Turn stove top heat on medium low. Using a large sauté pan, add half the garlic + herb butter. SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES Char's mural @aaroncharart. We at SCH believe that education always comes first. Let’s be honest, we really don't want to clean beaches forever. That’s why Our education team gave Zoom presentations leading up to the cleanup - reaching over 50 students total in 3 classes: Intro to Environmental Issues, Intro to Marine Environmental Issues, and Pandemics & the Environment. SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES So, when next Tuesday has come and gone, the real work begins the next day and the day after that and the day after that. We can all start small. Even joining the efforts of an organization like Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii is civics in action. Maybe you'll attend your first neighborhood board meeting. Maybe you'll join a peaceful protest. The Cigarette Surfboard started off making their first board for a competition through Vissla and Surfrider Foundation. The goal was to make a surf-craft out of upcycled materials, and the Ciggy Boys saw this as an opportunity to raise awareness around ocean pollution--something SUSTAINABLECOASTLINESHAWAII.ORG 301 Moved Permanently. openresty__ 0

SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES HAWAII is a grassroots, local nonprofit organization run by a small team of dedicated staff and supported by passionate volunteers, just like you. We inspire local communities to care for their coastlines through fun, hands-on beach cleanups. We also coordinate educational programs, team building corporate cleanups, waste diversion services, public awareness campaigns and help others run their own beach cleanups. INSPIRING STEWARDSHIP The next generation will look back upon our time and the distinction will be made, did we do enough to protect our oceans or did we turn our backs on them. At Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii we want to indefinitely show that we not only faced the issues, we worked to solve them. Our main focus is on the youth, empowering them to see hope in the future armed with actions they can take to preserve ourOceans.
