The following chart shows the five year recycling trend for the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County in its efforts to meet the statewide recycling goals established by the 2008 Act. For a listing of annual solid waste reports to FDEP, please view the FDEP website (reference the Annual Solid Waste Reports section). LANDFILL | SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL We are only putting ash from combustion, construction debris, and residue with limited energy value such as glass, grit and dirt in the landfill now. HAZARDOUS WASTE SERVICES Hazardous materials placed in the waste stream can present dangers to solid waste workers, the public, the environment, and our facilities. The goal of the Hazardous Waste Services department is to reduce these risks by offering and promoting alternative collection programs and managing various internal protection programs. FACILITIES • SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY The SWA's Renewable Energy Facility 2 (REF2) is a $672,000,000, state-of-the-art waste to energy facility. The REF2 project is the first of its kind in more than 15 years and the most advanced and cleanest waste-to-energy power plant in North America. GOVERNING BOARD OF THE AUTHORITY Overview The Governing Board of the Authority consists of the seven (7) members of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners. The Governing Board is the head of the Authority and exercises regulatory and executive powers. PAINT YOUR HEART OUT Paint your Heart Out Palm Beach County is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that offers assistance to the elderly, disabled and low-income families with children. For more than 25 years, the SWA has been leading the way in providing convenient and efficient services that preserve our natural resources.
