In this series I’ll also discuss some tricks that I’ve found to make baking and curing polymer clay easier and more effective. HOW LONG TO BAKE POLYMER CLAY? Bake Longer “Just in Case”. Of course, if you don’t want to mess with running tests, just bake “longer”. If you ask most polymer clay pros they’ll say they bake everything for an hour. Or longer. And for thicker and larger pieces they might bake for several hours. WHICH PENS TO USE ON POLYMER CLAY It’s best to use archival or pigment-based markers to write on polymer clay. Alcohol ink markers such as Copic also work well, but will fade in the light with time. Most varnishes and sealers will cause these inks to run and smear. PITT markers give a good result, but they tend to dry out quickly. MICA POWDER VS. PIGMENT POWDER Recently I’ve noticed much confusion about the difference between mica powder and pigment powder. Both can be mixed into and used to add color to resin, soap, candles, and translucent polymer clay.They are both colorants and can be used to color the surface of polymer clay.
