*** ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE SPECIALTY SHOW COMMITTEE *** Just letting you know that your show committee has plans to announce ASAP details regarding the following:o Any judge changes
o What will happen with Entries already made; o Order cancellations and/or shipping now needed * How to enter the tentatively scheduled additional Fast CAT trials * How Futurity will work * How Sweeps will work * Changes related to the Agility trials Your individual questions only slow us down as we work to sort out the hundreds of moving pieces to a National Specialty show. We are working as quickly as we can under the constraints of the pandemic to get these answers to you. What we will not do is answer prematurely. Individual pursuit of information from AKC, our Superintendent and/or Trial Secretaries will only slow down our ability to get answers. Please be patient and watch this page, the DCA website and the lists for announcements as information is finalized. We PROMISE that you will be the first to know when details are finalized!*****
*** PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PRESIDENT MICHELE WRATH *** As the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold, it has become increasingly evident that maintaining the May, 2020 date for our National Specialty is not a viable plan. As with any large event, a tremendous amount of work goes into the planning and execution of a National Specialty. A decision to cancel or reschedule must be given careful consideration. It is not a decision to be taken lightly. Over the past 5 days, a great deal of work has gone on behind the scenes to evaluate the options we have for our 2020 National Specialty. After a considerable amount of investigation, we narrowed our choices to three options: ·Â     Cancel the National Specialty now ·Â     Maintain the current date and risk cancelling in 30 days ·Â     Reschedule to a future date in 2020 The DCA Board convened an emergency Board meeting on Tuesday, March 17 to review the three options and decide on how to proceed. After carefully weighing the pros and cons of each option, the Board unanimously voted to reschedule the National Specialty. Our new dates are July 5-11, 2020. The location has not changed. Our host hotel, The Crowne Plaza in Asheville, offered us the only date they had available before the end of the year. There are many more details that need to be finalized and we know you have a lot of questions. We are working with the hotel, the show superintendent, the judges for all the events, and we will update you as we make progress. We expect to start providing more detailed information later this week. I would like to thank Linda Stafford, our 2020 National Specialty Show Chair, her committee, and Toni Linstedt, our Steering Committee chair, for the work they have done to get us this far, and for all the work they will continue to do to make our 2020 National Specialty areality!Â
Please be patient with us as we work through the many details involved with this date change. Our first update should come out later thisafternoon.
We realize we can’t predict the future, and anything can happen, but we hope to see you all in Asheville in July! Thank you! Your support has been amazing!***

Thank you very much for the update and rescheduling the event. Thank you for making a very difficult decision. Unprecedented times aren’t easy for anyone to navigate. I’m not able to attend This year but hoping for a great event. What an amazing job everyone who is working on the National and the board are doing. Thank you so much for all the hard work so far, and until the event is in the record books. Thank you for rescheduling!! I get how hard this has been as we host many events each year and well I get it. See you in July - thank you for the update. This whole situation sucks, and I am so sad about it. Not complaining...just sad and disappointed like the rest of the world. I think rescheduling was the right thing to do. I really hope things are doing well enough to have it in July.thank you
Great idea and good planning Thank you for all your hard work. Many airlines will not let dogs fly in July, but at least some will now be able to compete. Thank you for not cancelling! Thank you for choosing to do this sooner and not later. For people traveling from a long distance we appreciate this so much. Thank you for the update! Also for all of the hard work, difficult decision making, and ongoing dedication to making DCA 2020 happen on the committees behalf and for us, those looking forward to attending. Thank you to everyone during this difficult time, and for making a decision that will allow the event to hopefully continue in July. Thanks to each and every one of the volunteers who have been working so hard to make this happen and will continue to do so! Kudos to the board for coming together and making an extremely difficult decision. Thank you for all the work you do. Thank you all for your hard work. I’m sure it was not an easydecision.
Thank you DCA Board and 2020 Committee for your hard work and dedication to making it possible for the show to go on. We appreciateall your efforts.
There was no perfect alternative. The board did the best that they could with the information available. Thank you so much to all those who have worked so hard at this and for deciding to reschedule ! Thank you for giving us all hope for the future of dog shows, especially DCA. I appreciate your hard work and understand this is our only option which makes it the best option. Thank you for everyone’s hard work!!!! Thank you to all involved! I'm sad for those who will not be able to come due to the change but I appreciate all the work and dreams that go into putting on theNational
July is a good idea for most of the events! Thank you for rescheduling and all your work planning this! However, can we explore keeping Road Trial at original date? It's a low risk activity since we keep pretty far apart anyways. July will not be possible for 25 miles in that location. It will be dangerously hot for the dogs and horses. Another thing. Many of use will just be coming off of limited income and will not have the money or the time to go to a national specialty. We all appreciate the time and thought that is going into making DCA happen amid all this craziness. Wise decision to reschedule! Although, I think September or October would be better due to July summer show in Asheville can be rather hot and competitor's flying might not be able to meet airline restrictions for ground temperature below 85 degrees at departure or landing.View more comments
