FLEMISH/IRISH TRAD FOLK SESSION W/GUESTS - JAN SMED16:30Admission Free
An afternoon of Irish & Flemish trad & folk music with special guest performance from Jan Smed The Jan Smed (‘John Smith’) is a traditional Flemish dance. In 1969 five youngsters from the same parish near Brussels chose Jan Smed as the name of their newly formed band. They were among the very first to revive traditional music in Flanders. Now, fifty years later, and still going strong, they are the only surviving band from thepioneering days.
Jan Smed’s hallmark has always been a repertoire of tunes and songs drawn from the purest sources of tradition: old collections and handwritten tunebooks, and the memory of aged musicians and singers. The line-up includes fiddle, flute, fife, Flemish bagpipe, diatonic accordion, _hommel_ (Flemish dulcimer), double bass and percussion. The band are known for their fresh, energetic and highly danceable tradition-inspired approach. Ever since their first gigs in Ireland in 1975, at festivals in Cobh and Letterkeny, the Jan Smed band have had a soft spot for the country. A couple of years ago, fiddler and piper Ivo and his wife Chris even became parttime residents of Bray. Ivo now takes every opportunity to jam with his Irish friends in the area. Some of them will be happy to join the band for a mixed Flemish and Irish set. Fifty years after Jan Smed’s first gig in October 1969, their could be no greater place for one of their golden jubilee concerts than theHot Spot.

FINTAN MCHUGH - ALBUM LAUNCH SHOW Doors open 8pm / Show 9pmAdvance €8 / Pay €10 on door Three years after his critically acclaimed debut _Wait Till The Clouds Roll By_, Fintan McHugh’s long awaited second album titled _Stardust And Bone_ is soon to be released. _Stardust And Bone_ is an album of original songs by Fintan which shows him in a more personal and independent light. As _Wait Till The Clouds Roll By_, _Stardust And Bone_ remains true to an acoustic intimacy and poise. Fintan's songwriting skills are paved with his unique vocal and characteristic guitar-playing to form an outstanding album of eleven songs to stir the heart and soul. The imagery invoked by _Stardust And Bone _opens up and field of tension in which the earthly stands against the cosmic, the human body against the stars as they smoulder and die leaving only their dust trails as evidence of their existence. _Stardust And Bone_ invites the listener to dream, to long for more from this uniquely talented artist. Fintan is an extraordinary musician and singer. He’s one to look out for! INSTRUMENTS: voice, guitar, Irish bouzouki and harmonicaDebut album from

LUKA BLOOM
Doors open 8pm / Show 9pmTickets €18* - €20 With a poet's heart and a rockster's soul, Luka Bloom is regarded as one of Ireland's most respected contemporary folk artists, having produced over 20 albums since the 1970s, Bloom continues to push the boundaries of what his music can do. A master interpreter, Bloom has continued to balance original songs with reinventions of tunes by a diverse range of songwriters. Like many who write songs, Luka's orchestra of choice is the guitar. What makes his career a little different is his constant search for a new voice within the guitar. The guitar is the landscape on which the song is created, and he is forever probing that landscape for new inspiration. No effects, no gadgets. Time, effort and a whole lot of love bring forth new voicings within the instrument, and bit by bit, the songs come to life. And eventually they fly, bringing Luka with them to be heard in Byron Bay, San Francisco, Hamburg, or even Doolin. Almost 40 years since recording his first album, Luka Bloom makes a welcome return to The Hot Spot Music Club *First 20 tickts are €18*

MACK FLEETWOOD - NYE 2019 Doors open at later time of 9.00pmTickets €19* - €23 Ring in the New Year with Ireland’s premier tribute to the Super group Fleetwood Mac, bring you on a magical musical journey from the Peter Green blues era to the multi-platinum selling Anglo/American band that still tour today. Originally the “Best White Blues Band” to come out of the 60s, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac had several memorable hits and influenced scores of others great bands that were to follow them, and/or cover their songs, such as Led Zeppelin and Santana. When Peter Green left the band, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie kept the show on the road, being joined first by Christine Perfect (later McVie) and then Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. These three talented and prolific songwriters brought a distinctive style and unique fusion of rock, pop and country to the band. The turmoil of the bands private lives was played out in their music. Nicks & Buckingham soon gained iconic status in fronting the new line-up. Fleetwood Mac enjoyed a rebirth, producing many classic hits including the outstanding Rumours album. They went on to even greater worldwide success than the original line-up. 6 piece band, MACK FLEETWOOD deliver a spellbinding show. Their love of the material and musical prowess shines through in each song. They will bewitch you with authentic renditions all your favourite Fleetwood Mac hits. *NOTE: NYE 2019 - FIRST 19 TICKETSARE €19
