Modern quilting has existed in many forms for much of the 20th century. It wasn't until the 2000's that quilts with a modern aesthetic began to appear in greater numbers and quilters began to describe themselves as modern. CHALLENGES - THE MODERN QUILT GUILD Make-A-Difference Challenge Rules. Each MQG Member is eligible to enter one quilt for the Challenge. Quilts must have 3 layers held together with quilting or tying. Quilts should have a finished edge. Quilts can be any size. THE HISTORY OF ENGLISH PAPER PIECING The earliest known American made hexagon quilt is dated 1807 while the oldest coverlet to include English Paper Piecing is the 1718 Coverlet, which is the earliest patchwork in the UK Quilters' Guild collection.
