All the consumerism makes me feel tired, and that combined with my tendency to get grouchy when I feel obligation creeping in around any holiday has resulted in our Christmases getting simpler and simpler over the years. . I don’t send out cards. I only decorate the living room, and mostly kept to simple decor & some trimmings from the shrub out back. We didn’t attend a single play/program this year. I tried to only shop small businesses & fair trade merchants. We’re sticking to 3 gifts each for the kids this year (want, wear, read). And we’ll bake a couple batches of cut-out cookies and a special cake for Christmas Day, but I’m not driving myself crazy with “obligation baking.” . The calendar is cleared for a good two weeks to make room for extra rest and reflection and Christmas feels truly peaceful for the first time in a while.Details
