Whether you are new to sewing or just getting back into it after a long break, this easy to make drawstring bag is the perfect project for you. The simple bag requires no specialpattern or
HOW TO MAKE STRAIGHT GRAIN BINDING Step 3: Sew your strips together. Position the end of one strip on top of the end of another, putting them at a 90-degree angle from one another. Sew a diagonal line at a 45-degree angle, and trim the corner, like so: Open your seams and press, then repeat this process until you have sewn all 4 strips into one continuous line. 10 TIPS FOR DESIGNING QUILTS 6. Backing. Quilts are double sided yet so many stitchers only focus the front and use a wide back fabric for the backside. If time allows, I encourage you to consider piecing your quilt back or adding an extra quilt block from the front design. This will really allow you to use the quilt on either side. TO STARCH OR NOT TO STARCH I definitely use starch, but I buy the concentrated Sta-Flo brand and dilute it 50/50. This is how I starch: I starch every piece of fabric I’m going to work with, at least 2 hours ahead of the time, throw it in a plastic bag, and let it sit, then I’ll take it out, either line dry or throw in the dryer for a few minutes, then iron, have never had a problem with the iron getting all gunky then. 10 CREATIVE ZIPPER PULL TABS 6. LEARN HOW TO SQUARE A QUILT After you have pieced together your favorite quilt blocks into a beautiful quilt top, it’s time to start the prep work for the all over stitching such as long arming or free motion. That means, square a quilt top, create a quilt sandwich, truing you topper and pinning things together. Taking the time to do this prep work can transform your quilt from a homemade “nice job” to a stand-out HOW TO HANG YOUR MINI QUILT Here’s how to do it: Measure the back of your quilt, across the top. Subtract 2 inches; call this Measurement X. Cut a piece of fabric that is 2.5” wide by X inches wide. Fold this strip in half lengthwise, with the wrong sides facing, and press (like making straight-grain binding). TO STARCH OR NOT TO STARCH I definitely use starch, but I buy the concentrated Sta-Flo brand and dilute it 50/50. This is how I starch: I starch every piece of fabric I’m going to work with, at least 2 hours ahead of the time, throw it in a plastic bag, and let it sit, then I’ll take it out, either line dry or throw in the dryer for a few minutes, then iron, have never had a problem with the iron getting all gunky then.
