Our vision to rescue, relieve suffering, bring restoration, and place children in families is only accomplished with the help of friends, partners, and concerned individuals who band together to provide the financial support for our work. WHO WE ARE | THE SPARROWS NEST Since 1996, The Sparrow’s Nest has served as an orphanage, child and family crisis center, and missions outpost in the nation of Latvia. We are a team of Christian professionals committed to Christ and to caring for children and families in crisis. WHAT WE DO | THE SPARROWS NEST Our vision for caring for children is four-fold and includes the following: To Rescue by responding to calls from regional governments to aid children and families in crisis through direct intervention and placement within the Sparrow's Nest family.HOW YOU CAN HELP
Volunteer opportunities abound at The Sparrows Nest! A key to the restoration process in each child’s life is to have the individual love and care they need to flourish.HOW WE DO IT
With the help of our partners we are able to provide the following programs and therapies as needed to meet the individual needs of eachchild.
WAITING CHILDREN
I wanted to give you a brief update on our waiting children. The pandemic has slowed down adoptions and the passing of the law to prohibit international adoption. As conditions improve with COVID, adoption travel will become easier, and at the same time, focus will return to passing the law to end international adoption from Latvia. However, God is faithful, and in changing seasons, His FOCUS AND MOTIVATION Distance learning is challenging for children around the world, and the children of the Sparrow’s Nest are no exception. Our staff devised a point system to help with focus and motivation. Each week, the children who kept their points were able to enjoy a special treat. The grand prize was a trip to our nearby forest where horse- drawn sled rides were offered.OUR SUPERHEROES
Our care workers give their all each day! We are thankful for their courage and faithfulness to serve during the pandemic. They are ourSuperheroes!
HELPING HANDS
For about five years, we have been without a caretaker for our farm. Over the past nine months, we have had a Latvian couple living at the farm. They came to us when they lost their jobs and home and needed a place to live.
A key to the restoration process in each child’s life is to have the individual love and care they need to flourish. FOCUS AND MOTIVATION Distance learning is challenging for children around the world, and the children of the Sparrow’s Nest are no exception. Our staff devised a point system to help with focus and motivation. Each week, the children who kept their points were able to enjoy a special treat. The grand prize was a trip to our nearby forest where horse- drawn sled rides were offered.WAITING CHILDREN
I wanted to give you a brief update on our waiting children. The pandemic has slowed down adoptions and the passing of the law to prohibit international adoption. As conditions improve with COVID, adoption travel will become easier, and at the same time, focus will return to passing the law to end international adoption from Latvia. However, God is faithful, and in changing seasons, HisOUR SUPERHEROES
We thought that we were helping them, but they have blessed us so much by caring for the home and grounds and using their photography skills to capture daily life andWAITING CHILDREN
The pandemic has delayed the completion of adoption for waiting children. Pray for renewed hope and courage for these children andtheir new families.
CHANGING SEASONS
At the Sparrow’s Nest, we watch for the changing seasons in our children’s lives. We stand guard as the children live through the initial season of crisis as a result of their loss and displacement. We offer hope in their season of realization and regrowth of fragile tendrils of trust. We help encourage and bring instructions during the season of forgiveness, healing, and acceptance. SUPPORT FAMILY REQUEST A support family commits to pray for a particular child or sibling group throughout the year. A support family communicates through cards or letters once a month.LIVES RESTORED
Two little Sparrows find a forever home! This brother and sister have found their nest in the lives of a caring adoptive family. We praise God for this answer to prayer.FRESH AND SANITARY
With the help of our partners, we were able to replace well worn carpeting in two of our homes! We are so grateful for this timelyupgrade and the
A FATHER OF THE FATHERLESS... A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in His holy habitation. Psalm 68:5SEPTEMBER SMILES
The children started back to school with some restrictions for COVID 19. They do not need to wear masks, but are confined to their individual classrooms during the school hours. Everyone was excited to get back to school and especially to see their friends. CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN! The Sunday School class of United Christian Fellowship in Middlebourne, WV presented a beautiful offering to help provide Christmas gifts for the children of Sparrows Nest.A CHRISTMAS WISH
Each year we purchase warm, cozy pajamas, a special toy, and a bag of candy for Christmas for each child at Sparrow's Nest. This year we made a special time for the children to draw pictures of what they would like for Christmas. We were fortunate to have a volunteer available to video a group of children as they drew their Christmas wish. We hope you enjoy this little window into our world. The Sparrow's Nest

SERVING ORPHANED CHILDREN IN LATVIA AND BEYOND.who we are
what we do
how we do it
FOUNDED IN 1996, WE ARE A CHRISTIAN MISSION DEDICATED TO THE CARE OF ORPHANED, ABANDONED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN IN LATVIA AND SURROUNDING NATIONS. IN 1999 WE EXPANDED OUR MISSION TO INCLUDE MINISTRY TO FAMILIES IN CRISIS.WE ARE A COMMITTED TEAM OF AMERICAN, LATVIAN, AND RUSSIAN MEN AND WOMEN WHO SHARE A PASSION TO SERVE GOD AS HE CHANGES LIVES AND MENDS THE BROKEN HEARTED. Sparrow’s Nest rescues children in need; relieves emotional and physical suffering; works to bring restoration in each child’s life, and then replaces the child in a family. We work alongside families in crisis to prevent the breakdown of the family, and support the rehabilitation of child and parents. We support the work of foster families, and promote guardianship and adoption. Like a family, we provide food, clothing, medicine, education and safety. We look for gifts and talents in every child and reinforce the incredible value of each life entrusted to our care. We share the love of God and create an atmosphere of trust where broken hearts are mended and hope is restored. Our final work is to replace each child in a living permanent family.HOW YOU CAN HELP
BECOME A SUPPORT FAMILY Children placed with The Sparrow’s Nest face overwhelming fear and rejection when their world is turned upside down. A support family affirms the value of a child during a time of loss or rejection. The cards and small gifts throughout the year are a steady reminder that the child is loved, valuable, and not forgotten. You can come alongside a specific child through prayer, celebrating their birthday and holidays, and being involved with special needs like medical care and development of the child’s gifts and talents.more info
VOLUNTEER
Volunteer opportunities abound at our Latvian Center where we have our housing for children and our farm where we grow food and spend time during the summer and holidays. We always need extra hands as we seek to care for each child and provide the attention they need. There is a place for volunteer teams who can help with building and repair projects. Therapists and doctors who can help the children and offer training to our staff are invaluable. We can often provide living accommodations for single volunteers and teams can be housed at ourfarm.
