how do you double tongue? (also i'm worse, catch my whole/half notevibrato)
THEUNDERCOVERFLUTIST Gonna assume you’re a flutist, because as always, reeds suck. You know how for single-tonguing, you go “_tuh_” or “_duh_” (depending on how you were taught/the note/the effect you’re going for etc. etc.)? For double-tonguing, you go “_tuh-kuh_” or “_duh-guh_” (hard g). This effectively moves your tongue backwards and forwards in your mouth, allowing you to go much faster than if you just went forwards. To start with, just practice doing the “_kuhs_” or “_guhs_” slowly. Then, when you can articulate notes and make them sound separate using just that, practice using “_tuh-kuh-tuh-kuh_” or “_duh-guh-duh-guh_” to play a set of four semiquavers. Do this with a metronome, starting deadly slow (e.g. 60 bpm) and working up tofaster tempos.
If you’re struggling double-tonguing quickly, well, a lot of it is practice, but also, try to keep your tonguing in the front of your mouth so it doesn’t have to move so much. Personally, I use “_duh-guh_” more for this reason. Also “_tuh-kuh_” gets kinda spitty sometimes. I hope that helps!! Sorry I’m not a teacher or even a particularly good flutist. Also, not sure what you mean by the vibrato part of yourask.
