FAREWELL TO THE LAND Farewell to the Land is a 1982 drama by staunchly independent filmmaker Mitsuo Yanagimachi, released roughly halfway between his two most well-known works, God Speed You! Black Emperor (1976), a seminal documentary on Tokyo’s bosozoku biker gangs, and the Cannes-acclaimed Fire Festival (1985), one of Donald Richie’sfavorite films.
