RIBEIRA D'ILHAS
Set in a valley between high cliffs, just to the north of Ericeira is the beach of Ribeira d'Ilhas. A lovely sandy beach complete with river and lots of interesting nooks and crannies, there's plenty here for the kids to do. What Ribeira d'Ilhas is best known for though is the surf. Having hosted numerous rounds of the ASP surfing World Tour championships there is no doubtsPRAIA DE GARRAO
Praia de Garrao is one of the principal beaches that serve a collection of high-end resorts known as the 'Golden Triangle'. Originally consisting of little more than sandy beach and pine forest, the Vale do Lobo was developed for tourism in the 1960s, closely followed by the neighbouring Quinta do Lago. The Vale do Lobo boasts a riding school, which offers fantastic ridesCASA DE LUCIA
Between 13th May and 13th October 1917, three local shepherd children living near Fátima are said to have witnessed apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The Sanctuary in Fatima is now a leading pilgrimage site for Catholics from around the world and attracts between 4 and 5 million visitors each year.PRAIA DA VAU
Tucked around the corner, but only around a kilometre, form Praia da Rocha and Portimão is yet another fantastic Algarve beach, Praia da Vau. Like its neighbours, the beach here is a swathe of golden sand backed by ocre coloured cliffs. Praia da Vau is a little more sheltered than Praia da Rocha with the cliffs to the west blockingmost of the wind.
PRAIA DO ANCÃO
The seemingly endless stretch of golden sands that form the Praia do Ancão sits roughly halfway between Faro and Quarteira. It is also lies within the so-called "Golden Triangle" which is an area containing the Algarve's most affluent resorts; Vale do Lobo, Vale do Garrão and Quinta do Lago.Ancão forms the western boundary of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and as such is backed SANCTUARY OF NOSSA SENHORA DOS REMÉDIOS The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Remedies) in Lamego. This fine baroque staircase with its numerous azulejo friezes zig-zags its way up Monte de São Estevão to the chapel on top. It is somewhat reminiscent of Bom Jesus in Braga.
