FMCSA EXTENDS EXEMPTION FOR TRUCKERS ASSISTING WITH COVID The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has extended its emergency exemption for truck and bus drivers assisting with COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts by another five weeks through May 15. The exemption, first issued on March 13, was set to expire on April 12. CUMMINS 2021 L9 OVERVIEW With more than 35 years of engineering behind it, Cummins’ L9 medium-duty engine didn’t require an entire redesign this year, but the Columbus, Ind.-based engine maker did have to meet the stricter emissions requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2021 Phase 2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards.The solution was to keep the base engine TOP 10 STATES WITH RUDEST DRIVERS The national average for instances of “rude” driving in 2020 was 25.90 per 1,000 drivers. Virginia came in at 43.26 out of 1,000, or 41% higher than the national average. By contrast, the most polite was Kentucky, which has 10 rude infractions per 1,000 drivers. This is the second consecutive year that Virginia landed the top spot. IOWA 80 TRUCKSTOP TO OFFER COVID-19 VACCINES Iowa 80 Truckstop has partnered with Hy-Vee Pharmacy to open five COVID-19 vaccine clinics starting May 10. Open to anyone ages 18 and over, the clinics will be conducted on-site at the truck stop in the main building on the third floor. Things like sitting too close to the steering wheel can lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain attributed to extended hours on the road. FMCSA EXTENDS COVID-19 RELIEF EXEMPTIONS THROUGH MAY 31 The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has extended its pandemic-related emergency exemption through the rest of the year.
