UKGBC launched its Advancing Net Zero programme in 2018 to help drive this transition in the UK and deliver the emissions reductions required from the construction and property sectors. This page provides a list of upcoming projects in 2021/22, resources currently available, and ways to get involved in the programme. CASE STUDY: BRUNEL BUILDING Project overview. Working in collaboration with Fletcher Priest Architects, Derwent London drew inspiration for the Brunel Building from its setting by the Grand Union Canal and adjacency to Paddington Station, and agreed that the design demanded a robust construction which reflected the spirit of the great engineer, Isambard KingdomBrunel.
MARKLAKE COURT
Marklake Court is a community-led development of socially rented homes in South London. Leathermarket Community Benefit Society (CBS), an organisation set up by elected estate residents to bring forward affordable homes for the community, identified a potential disused site that was owned by Southwark Council. NEW HOMES POLICY PLAYBOOK The Playbook is intended as a hands-on resource, designed to be used and adapted to support the ‘day job’ of officers with responsibilities for sustainability and planning within local authorities. The core content of this Playbook focuses on reducing energy demand and carbon emissions, mitigating overheating risk, thecross-cutting issue
CASE STUDY: EDWARD STREET QUARTER Social value. The development aims to provide up to £400m in social, economic and environmental value over 20 years, and is committed to delivering more social value throughout the CASE STUDY: COSTA ECO POD Project overview. The project set out to deliver the first net zero energy retail building for Costa Coffee. This has been achieved with agreement between all of the stakeholders involved in the scheme to provide a basis from which to replicate across new retail projects. CASE STUDY: BLACKPOOL VICTORIA HOSPITAL The proposed development is an extension to the Emergency Department of Blackpool Victoria Hospital which would provide 14 critical care beds and hospital staff accommodation, and would require the demolition of an old theatre block. CASE STUDY: DORSET HOUSE Project overview. A private, three bedroom family home, equipped with a photovoltaic roof, triple glazed windows and rainwater recycling. The house is designed to Passivhaus standards and is an ‘energy plus’ residence, exporting more energy than it consumes. CASE STUDY: HORIZON HOUSE Horizon House, the regional headquarters for the Environment Agency in Central Bristol, scored the highest BREEAM rating of its type in 2010 and, through in-use measurement, continues to demonstrate that it outperforms the ‘good practice’ benchmark for similar commercialbuildings.

NET ZERO CARBON BUILDINGS: A FRAMEWORK DEFINITION From November 2018 to March 2019, UKGBC brought together an extensive range of industry stakeholders, including a task group, to build consensus on a framework definition for net zero carbon buildings in the UK.. The primary focus of the framework is to set in place a path to achieve net zero carbon buildings in both construction and operation (in-use energy consumption), whilst HEALTH AND WELLBEING IN HOMES Health and Wellbeing in Homes. This report discusses the mental, social and physical health and wellbeing of the people who occupy the homes we build and retrofit. It is aimed at all those with a role in developing, designing, delivering or managing general needs housing in the UK. Added. September 21, 2017. THE RETROFIT PLAYBOOK This Playbook forms part of the Accelerator Cities Programme – a project designed to support and enable local and combined authorities to take action on home retrofit, run by UKGBC and partners, with co-funding from EIT Climate-KIC. The Playbook is a guide; and the intention is that local authorities can ‘dip into’ those sections that are relevant and useful to them. CAPTURING THE VALUE OF SUSTAINABILITY This report focuses on the wider business case for sustainability. Rather than just a simple calculation for the return on investment for a particular sustainability initiative, such as an LED lighting upgrade, the report explores the challenges that businesses face in trying to identify the value they derive from their sustainabilityinitiatives.
