UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND: TIMELINE OF SCOTTISH HISTORY: 1400 Timeline: 1400 to 1450. 1400: The Duke of Rothesay bigamously marries Mary Douglas. The father of his spurned first wife gains support from Henry IV of England and an English army easily takes Edinburgh, except for the castle, before withdrawing. 1401: David Stewart, 1st Duke of Rothesay is captured by his uncle Robert, Duke of Albany and SCOTFAX: DRIVING SINGLE TRACK ROADS ON UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND You have to look much harder to find single track roads in Scotland than used to be the case: but they're still there. As you travel further north and west, and in particular on Scotland's islands, you will sooner or later find yourself on a road too narrow to pass the vehicle coming the other way towards you.. Driving these roads requires thought and concentration. LEWIS & HARRIS SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION ON UNDISCOVERED Tel: 01851 621397. E-mail: stay@luxuryhebrideancottage.co.uk. HERMIT'S CASTLE FEATURE PAGE ON UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND Hermit's Castle. Hermit's Castle. Achmelvich, just three miles north west of Lochinver, is an idyllic place of white sands and blue or turquoise seas. People visit for the sublime coastal scenery and for the inland views of the improbable summit of Suilven, which from thisangle looks like a
CALUM'S ROAD FEATURE PAGE ON UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND The Commemorative Cairn. Nonetheless, since 1982 the road north has extended for two miles beyond Brochel, largely thanks to the efforts of one man, Calum MacLeod. He almost single-handedly built what is now known as "Calum's Road" between the mid 1960s and the mid 1970s, at which point it was possible for Calum MacLeod to drive along it in his CRAWFORDJOHN FEATURE PAGE ON UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND Crawfordjohn. Today's Crawfordjohn is a quiet hamlet that could define the term off the beaten track. Which is a little ironic because although the village has always been a long way from anywhere else, until the 1800s it was the focus of the road network covering the wider area and a very busy place indeed. TAPPOCH BROCH FEATURE PAGE ON UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND Tappoch Broch (sometimes known as Torwood Broch) stands hidden in a forest about two miles north east of the town of Denny. The forest is not as impenetrable as it used to be, following the felling of areas of trees en route to the broch (along either of the two paths) and the addition of some direction signs. NEWARK CASTLE, ST MONANS, FEATURE PAGE ON UNDISCOVERED Newark Castle. The impressive, crumbling, ruins of Newark Castle (sometimes also known as the "Castle of St Monans") occupy a magnificent clifftop location half a mile south west of the attractive village of St Monans and only a third of a mile from St Monans Church. The ruins are in a perilous state, and so are the cliffs they standon.

UNDISCOVERED SCOTLAND THE ULTIMATE ONLINE GUIDE TO SCOTLAND* 0
* 1
WELCOME
Hello, and welcome to Undiscovered Scotland, the ultimate online guide to Scotland. The site is a combination of visitor guide, accommodation listing and business directory, and aims to show you what the country is really like. We also offer website design, maintenance and hostingservices.
On 22 March 2020 the Scottish First Minister said: "Scotland is a warm and welcoming country and I fervently hope it’s not too long before we are opening our arms and our countryside to visitors again – but right now our priority must be to protect people from this virus, protect our NHS and protect Scotland." Until normality returns, we offer Undiscovered Scotland as a means of reminding our visitors that there is an amazing, fascinating and beautiful world beyond the walls that now confine so many of us: and in the hope that it will not be too long before everyone can once more visit and enjoy what we believe to be the most wonderful part of thatworld.

IN FOCUS
The north bank of the River Clyde at Glasgow Harbour was once occupied by docks and shipyards. It is now home to Glasgow's magnificent Riverside Museum. Moored alongside, on Pointhouse Quay, is the Glenlee, a three masted steel-hulled barque built on the Clyde in 1896. Open to the public, "The Tall Ship" complements the Riverside Museum perfectly, and helps link the museum to the story of the RiverClyde. ( More ...)
