OIL SPILL LAB AT THE VALDEZ MUSEUM Oil Spill Lab at the Valdez Museum. Valdez, Alaska, April 14, 2021 – Education Director Faith Revell recently collaborated with local teachers Ann Norris and Kim Keller to present a “hands-on” learning experience at the Valdez Museum for the first time in over a year. On April 6, 2021 the galleries and corridors once again buzzed with excited Gilson Middle School 6 th graders during the CHITINA - VALDEZ MUSEUM & HISTORICAL ARCHIVE Chitina, a tiny settlement on the Edgerton Highway, has a history rooted in the copper mining boom years of the early 1900s. Chitina’s story begins with the first big copper discoveries in the summer of 1900. Two men, Clarence Warner & Jack Smith, were directed to the Kennecott Glacier area (quite a WORK FORCE - VALDEZ MUSEUM & HISTORICAL ARCHIVE The bronze statue that stands inside the gate to the Alyeska Pipeline Terminal shows five people who represent the workforce that built the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. New Museum Project Preserving the Human Story. The Valdez Museum has roots dating back to 1901 when Valdez prospector Joe Bourke gathered together a small exhibit of “curiosities” to display around town. OLD TOWN MODEL
The centerpiece of the Remembering Old Valdez Exhibit is the museum’s Historic Old Town Valdez model, a 1:20 scale replica of Old Town Valdez as it appeared just prior to the 1964 Earthquake. New Museum Project Preserving the Human Story. The Valdez Museum has roots dating back to 1901 when Valdez prospector Joe Bourke gathered together a small exhibit of “curiosities” to display around town.
