Love (2021) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen. ‘Love’ attempts a horrific vivisection of a dysfunctional marriage and deftly works on the seeds of depressive confusion that it sows. Confronting their primal fears, the couple in ‘Love’ has a go at each other desperately, almost hysterically, letting us take a sneak peek at themonsters
TRANCE (2020) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW The fabulous musical score by Sushin Shyam and Jackson Vijayan is absolutely befitting to the piece. ‘Trance’ does address a theme that is radically important and proffers a compelling investigation into the unexplored realms of religion, faith and belief. But it’s also a movie that eventually gets choked by the mistiness thatpervades

KAATTU (2017) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW Share this! A primitive allure that had been long lost makes a revisit through ‘Kaattu’, and it’s a peculiar combo of the dismal and the lyrical that Arun Kumar Aravind comes up with in his new film. CARBON (2018) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW Carbon (2018) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen. Share this! ‘Carbon’ is a draining film; a confounding piece of cinema that requires as much an effort from the viewer to make sense of it, as from the film maker himself in its creation. This certainly isn’t its flaw, and where it tires the spectator out is in its decision toremain
S DURGA (2018) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW Share this! I wonder if Sanal had any intention to subvert the horror norms with ‘S Durga’, but in crafting a terrorizing film that takes you on a night ride with the beasts that assume human shapes, he has precisely done so. AAMI (2018) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW Share this! Kamal’s ‘Aami’ falls short of the requisites of an elegant biopic by a mile, and plays along like an unimaginatively scripted radio show, never really drawing you in, and never really letting you leave either. Arjun Ravi’s frames are remarkable, and the stun direction top-notch. ‘Kung Fu Master’ remains far from a fulfilling experience because it STREET LIGHTS (2018) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW Share this! Shamdat decides to go for a partly experimental account in ‘Street Lights’, but gets stuck with mostly one-dimensional characters in underdeveloped situations. THAMASHA (2019) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW The musical score by Shahabaz Aman and Rex Vijayan is immensely hummable and the frames by Sameer Thahir exquisite. Hamza’s ‘Thamasha’ will remain one of my favourite films this year, thanks to its very unique shimmer and shine. Uproarious, tender, thoughtful and touching, it’s a warm hearted affair with a disarminggenuineness that
HAPPY SARDAR (2019) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW ‘Happy Sardar’ is a perfect example of how a probably brilliant idea on paper could evolve into a damp squib on screen. There is a fat chance that the romance in it would move you or the comedy in it would have you clutching your stomachs, and sans any real thought or notion, this Sardar and his gang brings you no joy. THARANGAM (2017) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW A dashing looking Tovino effortlessly takes on the task of leading the pack, along with a highly restrained and hence doubly funny Balu Varghese, while actors as Saiju Kurup, Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan and Unni Mukundan (in an impressive extended cameo) leave a mark. Dominic Arun’s film is a fearless experiment without doubt, and awacky

There are a few things that ‘Mazhayathu’ achieves without being sermonizing and its real resonance lies in its exploration of an issue that is frighteningly real. KUNG FU MASTER (2020) MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW After three impressive directorial ventures that could possibly be as distinct from each other as they could be, Abrid Shine tries his hand at an action caper this time around, with ‘Kung Fu Master’ that however misses its mark by a mile. Happened to see this film on several Netflix lists for comedy lovers, and finally decided to give it a go. This Adam McKay directed flick that stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two oddball step brothers who are thrown together to live under a roof has some odd bits of laughter here and there, but hardly engage otherwise. Continuereading.
