HOW TO BUILD YOUR PERFECT INSPIRATION BOARD I love a good inspiration board. They’re a blast to put together, and of course, collecting items to feature is a huge part of the fun too! Boards like this are a great way to save mementos you love and that inspire you, and they also help you hone in on an aesthetic—whether it’s for a creative project, a home decor project, or even just your personal aesthetic (daily style included!). And of course, while not a classic camping experience, there was the time we spent a week at a dude ranch, riding horses in the mountains (I even rode in a rodeotrue story). As a kid, I absolutely hated going camping. BRINGING BOUGAINVILLEA INDOORS Bringing Bougainvillea Indoors. Are you a bougainvillea lover like me? Maybe the part of me that was always drawn to California is the same part of me that’s responsible for my complete and utter obsession with this gorgeous vine. It’s felt omnipresent throughout my life on the west coast — both in northern and southern California. A TALE OF 2 JUICES: SWEET AND SAVORY JUICE RECIPES 1 lemon, peeled. 2 inch nub of ginger, washed. entire bunch spinach, thoroughly washed. 1/2 bunch kale, thoroughly washed. Honestly, the orange and apple in this make the juice so delightfully sweet, you would never know there are greens in it. Replace the apples with pears and the orange with a large mango to mix things up! RECIPE: FRIED GOAT CHEESE CROQUETTES Place the goat cheese in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, so that it is very firm but not frozen. While the goat cheese is hardening, crack the egg into a bowl and beat with a fork. In a separate bowl, combine the bread crumbs, herbs, garlic powder, and seasoning. Mix RECIPE: WHITE WINE AND DIJON MARINATED PORK CHOPS Typically, I like to brine my pork chops at home in a simple solution of sea salt, brown sugar, garlic, and herbs, but last week I got inspired by this Ina Garten recipe from her Back to Basics cookbook (really, can she do any wrong?), and decided to put together my own riff on a Dijon marinated tenderloin. One of my favorite guilty pleasures is commandeering the TV for the night, pouring a glass of wine, and watching Antiques Roadshow on PBS. In a large, heavy bottomed pot or Dutch oven, melt the stick of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add in all the vegetables: the fennel, onion, carrots, potato, celery, garlic and corn. One of my absolute favorite dishes to make in the summer time is ratatouille.A traditional dish hailing from the Provence region of France (and pronounced rat-eh-too-eeit took me forever to get it right), ratatouille is traditionally made by stewing together tomatoes, onions, peppers, eggplant, squash and I WANT TO GO TO THERE: PAWS UP MONTANA I used to go camping every summer in the Ozarks with my family when I was a kid. I have a lot of great memories from those days. I haven’t done much camping since then. BRINGING BOUGAINVILLEA INDOORS I’m totally obsessed with bougainvillea! I’d never really seen it before moving to CA and when I finally did, it was love at first sight. Our neighbors across the street have a stunning bougainvillea plant that wraps around both sides of their corner lot fence and I’m constantly tempted to snap a few branches for out living room! RECIPE: FRIED GOAT CHEESE CROQUETTES Last Saturday night, Joe and I went out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the city. It’s a neighborhood kind of joint, with simple but delicious food and a warm atmosphere. RECIPE: WHITE WINE AND DIJON MARINATED PORK CHOPS Hi Sylvia! I used approx 1″ chops, but you can use whatever the store has and works for you — thinner, thicker, doesn’t matter! The marinade can sit on the chops the same amount of time, just adjust how long they bake in the oven after searing them (thicker chops, bake longer; thinner, not as long). OBSCURE THINGS I LEARN ABOUT FROM ANTIQUES ROADSHOW One of my favorite guilty pleasures is commandeering the TV for the night, pouring a glass of wine, and watching Antiques Roadshow on PBS. The thrill of the antique hunt, interesting backstories, experts giving brief history lessons, random Americans inevitably shocked or disappointed by the value of their wares — I’m totally serious when I say that this is compelling TV.
